Isn't the current owner buying land?

Just a plan and doesn't he just mean the little wedge shaped bit between the new retirement village (in red on image below) & the existing ground, I don't think he is talking about the park, that is surely CCC owned land still. His statement is a bit vague unless he produces a plan.

He added: “I am acquiring, personally, the whole of the land from the railway line down to The Butts Road and from side to side. Not just the area where the pitch and stand is.
“This is currently owned by a gentleman who lives in New York, he has been very helpful to the club in the past and we thank him for that.

I don't think there is a snowball in hells chance of Jon Sharpe going into any sort of ground share with our present owner, a new owner maybe.

I meant CCFC would, if serious, bid for the lease and then make CRFC sub tenants

Why would Cov want to be tenants? Seems like it would be a risk that they would be daft to take, unless they intend to move out to (say) Broadstreet & share their ground. That sounds more possible but would need a bit of jiggery pokery to manage properly.

Not being funny, but looking at that pic, if you built 4 stands to expand the capacity, then where would people park and I'm not even just talking about fans here, also talking about players and club officials, visiting officials etc.?

Maybe we'll have to bus them in too!

Other than cost is there a technical reason why you couldn't have an underground car park under part of the ground?

I think it would be possible to come up with an agreement where CRFC are better off than they are now while we get access to all the revenues we need.

Certainly wouldn't support anything that left CRFC worse off or restrict their potential for future growth.

What about an underground ground?

If we could do that we could build right under West Orchards.

underground car parks are much more expensive

http://www.parkingconsultantsltd.com/6n.htm

Would the club or its backers invest that sort of money and extend the build times significantly?

but it could be done ............. but then again will it be needed:thinking about:

The triangular area at back of site by railway has planning permission for a surface car park

Isn't there a sub terranian level right beneath the Ricoh sitting redundant from when the Casino was scaled back due to the Government not getting it's legislation through? :-o

Ermmm.. cost is a show stopper right there, even decked parking would require 24/7 usage during the week to make it pay.

This took all of 5 secs to research..
The difference in cost between underground and decked parking is huge. Decked parking costs roughly £8,000-£10,000 per space to build. Underground parking costs anything between £18,000-£30,000 per space, depending on ground conditions, contamination issues and the water table.

And another 10 secs shows the River Sherbourne flows rather close (past the old Summerland/Fob Watch pub and parallel to ButtsRoad up to the Ring Road), The Butts is at the bottom of the hill so the water table is probably relatively high round there.

Are we in 4th place in the water table too? Be nice to at least be in the play-off places there as well.

I think thats exactly why CRFC want to stop sub letting, because it restricts their future growth. So it just sound's like another reason on top off all the other reasons why it wont happen.

If you actually listen to what they guy says you can take it how you want.

CRFC want to expand and develop the ground, that much we know for sure. They have had talks with CCFC but nothing has gone past that stage, there would be issues to resolve. We all know that, hence where there's so many posts on this thread.

He also says they aren't doing anything with Cov United yet it was only two weeks ago, when rumours of us being interested in the site gained steam, that the CT were reporting they were going to be moving in!

He certainly hasn't ruled anything out. He says he doesn't want the ground to be used just for CRFC rugby so if not us or Cov United then who?

I think you need to consider the timing of the Initial article CD,then that it took such a long time to get Mr Sharp to comment, all with the background of rental talks going on,indeed just as they are concluded.

I just don't get how the media police have not been all over this one.
This is the starting paragraph

THE site identified by the Sky Blues to build a new stadium is the Butts Park Arena home of Coventry rugby club, the Observer can exclusively reveal.

Note the word the is in capitals. Maybe it's just me but does this not imply that this is the site we will be build on and is 'the' site identified. Not one of the sites!

Come on media police get on your high horses this is a misleading article.

I appreciate it doesn't fit into the CET hate us and want to destabilise the club bracket but surely it's worth a bit of a pop.

Les is even producing further articles saying he has been proved right.

I think this initial 'slip up' by Mr Anderson and the exclusive by Les was about two days before Mr Anderson went in for his first discussions with Wasps over the rental agreement.
Life is full of Little coincidences.
The media police were all over that as well.................

[h=1]VEALED: Sky Blues plan to build stadium at Coventry rugby club’s Butts Park Arena[/h]
is the above headline fact or fiction? Has the land owner/ leasee confirmed that Les' exclusive was correct as in the headline? Or did he just confirm that talks had taken place a while ago, but didn't go further because of such things as "size restrictions"? Did the owner say there were problems with pitch not being suitable for both football and Rugby ( in relation to Cov United's "enquiry / talks" ) - as reported by the evil CT? In other words is the Butts' story ( as per headline ) just pure BS from start to finish?

They haven't been ruled out:

As everybody knows, we’re selling their tickets for them. We talk to them, but we do not have any specific plans to work with them. (About Coventry City)

Full Sentence:

So we talk to them, we’re in discussions with them. We do not have any specific plans to work with them, or Coventry United or anybody else. I’m quite adamant about this and that’s why I’m trying to develop this stadium for Coventry rugby

The headline reads they plan to, I am planning to buy a Ferrari but doesn't mean I can / will?

It may well be 100% bullshit, but I guess it will all come out eventually whether it was or not.

My guess is posturing at the minute and it is in the background as a potential "option" if things go pear shaped with the Ricoh.

Yes, they don't plan to, but have looked at the option. But that isn't a great story. Sounds better if you exclusively reveal something as if it is going to happen.
