Mark Robins on Sky Blues' out of contract trio

Not too sure if this is reading into his actual quotes too much.

I got the impression Davies doesn't want to be on the bench so can understand if he wants to go somewhere to play every week.

Not good news but im surprised Willis is still with us to be honest. It would be quite disappointing to see Burge leave having had so much faith put in him by Robins.

that reads pretty clear to me... they don't want to talk about a new deal at the minute and are able to speak to other clubs... so premise thats what they are doing

Willis is been rumoured to be off in pretty much every transfer window. Burge gets constant flack off the fans no matter what he does well, and wouldnt blame him if he wanted to move really.

Just hope the upturn in results for us continues and they decide they want to be part of our future, as all decent players

We've stuck by burge through thick and thin. Through a fuck load of mistakes. Would really hurt if he now thinks, I'm better than you see ya.

I've had the impression for years that Willis will never leave cov. I'm not worried there and Davies has been unlucky with injuries hence losing his place.

I just hope there isn't a George Thomas situation where it goes up to June / July so that Robins knows what he needs to do. If they aren't going to sign, let him know early doors so he can bring replacements in.

Their agents will be hawking them out to other clubs, I think Willis and Burge in particular ought to think about their own debt to CCFC though

I have a feeling Burge will stay. Realistically I'm resigned to losing Davies and Willis as like previous posters have said, fair enough if Davies wants to play more. It's pretty much the entire reason he came here in the first place. With Willis, if anything I'm shocked he's stayed this long.

Strange comments by robins doesn’t seem to know much about contract situations or signings .. 6 months to go isn’t a long time get them in the office and sign 2/3 year deals this clubs need stabalilty we can’t keep changing 10 players every season.

If Willis goes we simply have to keep Davies for me both brilliant centre backs.

Burge has come on a lot the last couple of seasons, I think he would be daft in some ways to move. Good keeper now but no better then this level.

Perhaps the stability of a ground to play at next season might help with negotiations?

Mentioned this on Jan thread... Doesn't sound too great regarding Burge & Willis. In terms of wage bill, replacing Burge with a keeper of similar quality will cost more, due to his improvement since signing his last contract. They may justify that Willis is a high earner and can strengthen the team with his current wage. Tom Davies could go either way, depending if in team or not... he just hasn't been able to get a run of games, whether it's injury or suspension.

Willis may consider it repaid when he stayed during the L2 season and seemingly didnt look to force a move when we refused to sell to Rotherham. Hopefully not and signs a new contract but Robins obviously wants it known that the ball is in the players' court.

Be surprised if Willis stays. Think he could do a job in the mid to lower end Championship purely with his pace, if paired alongside a dominant brute type CB.

Brings my favourite question, would you be tempted to cash in on some funds in January or let them run down the existing deals and hope one or two remain.

Personally on this one I think I’d retain them all this window, tho I’d be interested in what’s being offered for Burge and Willis.

Tho if your MR it’s a interesting conversation if a offer lands in the inbox this month as he knows far better what’s available and probability they will be off or not for nothing this summer

I'd be surprised if we keep both Davies and Willis and i think we should be expecting to lose one of them anyway (contract up or not)

As for Burge, i think Robins needs to get him signed up, we have no other keeper anywhere near as good, and i think it would be harder to replace Burge for the same money as it would Willis/Davies.

Burge won’t go. He will be subject to a last minute bid from Real Madrid but will drop his pen just as he is about to sign and miss the deadline.

Just depends on the replacements available at the time.

For example Davies might be less of a loss than Burge as we stand if we got another CB in for the bench to slot in if Willis / Hyam get injured.

I think if Burge picks up an injury then we are screwed as it is.

Yeah I agree, think Burge and Willis at this point in time are your biggest loss unless we find another athletic central defender with 200 games under his belt. A keeper in January is a tricky one to find too.

Davies we’ve already Dom Hyam in the similar mould.

Who knows what deals may be offered too or player coming in exchange that may swing his thinking.

This doesn't make sense to me.

Definitely sounds like all three are off, but if Davies is off because he's not getting first team football, he surely WOULD be getting first team football as soon as Willis was sold.

We really don't want to be losing two centrebacks

I agree with Davies, he’s getting or had opportunities in the side so I don’t think it’s that. Maybe he’s just holding out to see what comes or has not been presented yet as Dom Hyam have come on a lot, or maybe wants a move back up north as that’s where he’s from originally. Cannot work that one out.

Burge and Willis will be playing the game, its the first time they can move for nothing in their careers and have a better cv to float about now.

Perhaps all 3 players are reviewing their options and there isn’t anything bad with that. Frankly, I’m unsure as to whether or not Burge and Willis could go to Championship clubs and start week in, week out. They may be better off staying for an extra season and try to get promoted with us. As for Davies, you can’t blame him if he wants 1st team football. I’m going to be optimistic and say both Willis and Burge will end up staying. As I’m unsure whether or not they can go anywhere where the grass is greener, so to speak. Being a situation like McNulty is would be a setback in their careers, especially for a GK.

It would be decent for their bank balance though which they probably would need to start thinking about.

On the subject of centre backs, is Jordan Thompson injured now? He's the long term replacement if Willis does go I assume.

McNulty is in a position where he may be moved on after 6 months. He probably won’t be staying in the Championship.

I’d probably wager that McNulty was happier playing week in, week out for us than his time at Reading.

If we finish in the top 9 this season, there’s a decent chance we could be in a position to push for promotion to the Championship. That’s also something for them to think about.

Haven't heard anything. He played against Palace in December so assume he has dropped down the order now Davies is on the bench.

With Willis and Burge having aspirations to play in the Championship, I think they will wait until the end of the season to see where we end up, before making their decision.

If Davies is not getting first team time, and his house is up for sale, sounds as if he is off for sure. Maybe Willis' agent latched on to the fact we can't afford to lose two center halves and is using that to pressure for a better deal for Willis?

As someone else on here mentioned, the shit Burge gets off the fans doesn't help, I wouldn't want to stick around.

As for players owing for loyalty - there is no loyalty in the game, teams are ruthless and players are treated like objects. Players have to look after themselves and take opportunities when they come along.

Would be criminal to let them all go for free at the end of the season. Gives reasoning to the supposed interest by Stoke in Burge now. Out of all three I'd be wanting to keep Willis - who's been outstanding since finding his fitness. Would you consider selling two to then keep one longer? I would.

This seems to suggest that our contract renewals aren't done in the way you would imagine.

Sounds like we don't offer new contracts. If the player wants to stay, they have to come to the table and request a new contract.

I agree with Burge, we've stuck with him after constant mistakes in previous seasons. But Willis stuck with us in League 1 and also in League 2. He's linked to clubs in every transfer window but has stayed with us.

Burge can go to Stoke, if they give us Crouch and Adam.

I hope all three re-consider and sign on with us, however, I think I'm probably in the minority in thinking both Willis & Davies are bigger losses than Burge. Burge has come on leaps and bounds in the last 9-12 months but I still don't think he's a particularly standout League 1 keeper. I agree with the notion that it might be more difficult to get someone to replace him if he were to leave in January, although a hot prospect loan may aid this, however, long-term I'd rather keep hold of both Willis & Davies. Both have been extremely solid and consistent over their time with us and finding two new stable centre backs would prove trickier than a keeper.

you simply cannot blame any of the players for seeing what clubs want them

i would be dissapointed to lose any of the cbs but burge is replaceable imo

i think LOB is probably same player talent wise, just burge found his consistency and lob didnt

happy with burges vast improvement but i wont cry if he goes, willis on other hand..
