I would say they are both a couple of stiffs.

Yesterday was the first time I'd seen him play, and this sums him up perfectly. Obviously I read what others say, but prefer to make my own judgments; he came for a cross early on and caught it well, and I thought that was positive.

Then things went sour.

I'm all for supporting him while he's in the team. I don't wish him ill will and I certainly don't condone getting on his case. But I agree that at this point in time, he's not up to standard.

I wonder if ITV can lend these to Burge:

The great Brian Clough said to build a winning team you first have to start with your keeper and build from the back.He bought Peter Shilton but obviously we can't attract a goalie of his quality, but surely we can get someone better than Burge ?

He is a calamity...I just hope TM has counted his lucky stars with him in goal so far. If we don't have the budget I would rather see Cookie in goal...

He has had 23 years to learn how to catch a ball. How much more time will he need? Maybe he only has small hands. The bigger your hands the easier it is to catch a football.

Perhaps he needs to exercise his hands until they are the size of Pat Jennings, former Spurs keeper, who had hands like shovels.

In general, I do agree, he's got to shape up or ship out!

That's exactly what I'd say. We should get right behind him when he plays, but personally I think we could use someone else in there at the moment. Any other managers watching the Burton game will surely highlight his poor handling of the high ball, and look to target that weakness.

RCC having a great game so far according to Twitter reports for under 21's

RCC has always looked more solid that LB anyway. I would give him a go.

RCC is having the game of his life today...

I feel it's going to take a series of critical errors from Burge before he is dropped.

He's been lucky so far...but for how long...that's the question

Yep, that's the big concern. Opposition teams are now going to be pumping over high balls left, right and centre as a deliberate ploy to target a clear weakness in our armour.

I see Ivor Lawton started today for u21's and didn't feature on Sat for Nuneaton...is that his loan over with then?

I saw him play for Nuneaton away at Tamworth (came on as a sub) and at home to Gloucester (Played as a RWB) and both times he was shocking. Admittedly he was played out of position but he looked worse than Conference North standard and was at fault for the goal Nuneaton conceded.

i don't know, Mowbray is not afraid to switch things around. RCC did okay at Rochadale and if he is doing well at development level, Mowbray might just give him a game, to keep both on their toes. Might also do Burge good to be taken away from the pressure for a few games.

RCC looked decent in pre season. Looked great and kept us in the game V Leamington single handily (well x2 as he has two hands)

Those points could prove costly at the end of the season. Still, Burge is only a kid and his development is more important than promotion and the team as a whole

He hasn't, but he has stopped some shots that could've proven to be winners against us.
I was using this as a counter argument. A striker misses chances but doesn't cost us the game would not be considered to be dropped. Why should a keeper for doing his own job to a similar standard?
He needs to improve & I doubt he won't be getting help from TM & all that can help. It will reach a point where he needs to improve or he will be dropped or shipped out.
For now he has just looked less than commanding at times in his box.

He hasn't stopped shots though, I can think of two decent saves he has made this season. One was the penalty at Milwall (which was all his own mistake to begin with) the other was the decent save yesterday, it was a save you would expect him to make 8/10 times but nonetheless it was a decent stop. His shot stopping in the other matches has been poor to average.

Its going to take more than divine intervention to make Burge into a decent keeper.

He's a weakness, simple as. Good teams don't have weaknesses. You might have players who aren't as good as the rest of the team but they give back what they don't have in ability in effort. Stokes is one for example, he's not on Maddison's, Armstrong's or Vincelot's ability level but he's worked hard to reduce the gap and make the team better. I don't see this with Burge.

His brother was playing for Charlton, probably at his best to make sure he didn't score!

If he could catch, he would be an okay/good keeper.

Unfortunately, to be a good keeper, you need to able to catch

At least Burge won't get ill. He doesn't look as though he could even catch a cold.

FFS...what is wrong with some of you on here???
We are 2nd, heading in the right direction with 4wins & a draw & the performances are looking very encouraging! And yet 80% of you can only moan & slate the keeper calling for him to be dropped or sold.
Compare now to where we were after 6 games last season, how we had only 2 wins & 3 draws, which direction we were heading & what the performances were like!!!
Then reassess the strength of your criticisms.
TM is obviously giving Burgers a fair chance, showing a bit of faith for now...& I'd wager his assessment is far better than any of ours. If Burgers isn't good enough TM will do something about it so stfu whingeing & support the lad!!!

I assume he's saying he's good enough for now.

Which I do agree with.

However, an experienced keeper coming in to challenge for number 1, would be ideal IMO.

I'm confident that TM pays no attention to what you doom sayers post on here (thankfully)...& that mostly (nobody is right 100% of the time) he will make whatever changes are appropriate at the right time.

Nice bit of backing up there. If you are happy for us to drop points due to him in the future, then fair play to you. If you believe he is more important than the team as a whole, fair play to you.

It doesn't matter what I or you believe. Its what TM believes.
Although what with you being able to for see the future given the matter of fact way you talk of our dropping points because of him - maybe TM should have you as his right hand man?
It is almost a stone cold certainty that we will drop points due to the strikers missing a golden opportunity too...let's drop them before its too late!!!
