No problem with pointing out negatives, but this is a witch-hunt.
Haven't checked, but is there a thread saying how Tudgay should have scored when he was clean through at the end, which would have finished them off?
No but I've mentioned it in the match thread, criminal miss. Other than that though Tudgay had a great game.

If Burge had pulled off several good saves and made one mistake I don't think much would have been made of it but he was calamitous today.

No he didn't, but ultimately, that miss could just have easily cost us the win.
I am just a little irritated that we always seem to have one player who gets the vitriol of the fans.
I don't actually think Burge is the best answer, but he needs encouragement and the support of the fans.

But people point it out game after game! I don't agree with shouting abuse at him mid game but why not discuss it?

Burge didn't have the best game and rode his luck at times, but made a points saving save. The type people were saying the other day he didn't make.

The first drop he recovered well. The second a long range shot no one near him so didn't matter, I have seen top class keepers do that regularly.

People need to support this young player rather than criticise all the time along with Willis, Thomas, Haynes and Stokes (for coming from non league).

Stokes has been one of our best players in the last two games.

I am just glad some on here aren't the manager, they would have signed shite the first on offer and let good players go like Tudgay.

We have two promising young keepers, so let's support them.

The save he made was totally routine and one any goalkeeper in the conference would be expected to make.

One he dropped was cleared off the line and the other could easily have been a penalty.

It was dreadful. The commentators were almost speechless - it was that bad.

I was pleased he made the save, it was a decent save and one which a L1 keeper should be able to make, can't fault him for his shot stopping today. I was horrified he fumbled 4 simple catches though.

Because people analyse every little mistake by the likes of Willis and Burge. In fact they don't they just say they are shit at every opportunity. In contrast they love Johnson (rightly) for his strengths, but ignore his weaknesses. He can be a see saw in games and can look a liability at times. Looked solid today along with Martin (another people always slag off before he has kicked a ball).

It's weird because when he was in the team last year I thought (and remember TM saying so as well) that he was very good and coming for the ball and claiming it, and that he needed to work on other areas.

From what I've seen he's gone backwards from his performances at the end of last season.

He doesn't command his area. He can't catch the ball. We saw it yet again. And they are two necessary things a GK needs to be able to do. Teams are learning about his weaknesses. We need to do something ASAP.

Yep any manager is just gonna tell his team to pump in crosses and crowd the keeper as he will give you a chance.

Perhaps because our fans are constantly criticising him. I don't think he is the strongest keeper in the league, but some of the blame put on him has been unjust in the past. Today was a performance from a keeper who looked like he feels under pressure. Players are aware of social media it will affect them.

How many mistakes did Burge make today? Should it not be mentioned because Reda makes the occasional mistake?

Well done Burge. You made several mistakes but at least we won.

Happy now?

Personally - I think focus on the positives. He made a great save & had other chances covered.
Where could he improve...looking hard at it...his handling is perhaps not the fault - it is his timing. He is sometimes too quick, sometimes too sluggish coming to catch the ball. That leads to his handling issues. It is solvable...& otherwise he would have been receiving huge slaps on the back today.

...onwards & upwards PUSB

At the matches fans have been nothing but extremely supportive of Burge even when he cocks up, he's not even a twitter user is he?
If a player can't handle criticism or perform under pressure they will find it very difficult to progress no matter how much talent they have.

He is dreadful and will costs us points sooner or later. People can't complain about no top 6 finishes and then carry on defending players who aren't good enough for the level we are at.

If you defend and turn a blind eye to a weak player because they have come through the academy, you are a fool and have no right to complain about years of underachievement.

Yeah it's not good. He could however be a coward and hide, and stay on his line to avoid the criticism.

And it;s worth noting that Mowbray had said what he liked about Burge was that he did try and command his area...

Laughable and the sound of an apologist. If you are happy to accept poor players the don't complain when we fail to progress as a club.

Don't wish to make exuses for Burge because he flapped alot today but the ground staff at Burton did water the ground before and at half time and the ball could have been slippy. I say could because I don't want to put a negative on a good win. All we need now is Wales and NI to win.

We have accepted poor players for years...I feel sorry for burge ...how many conceded goals has he been directly responsible for this season. How many has Reda, ricketts etc been at fault for. Yes burge not the best keeper we have had at the club but he is doing well enough. A few dropped balls today but luckily no goal as a result. When his mistakes cost goals and results I'm sure TM will act until then support him

Tudgay scored a fantastic goal and led the line very well. Yes he probably should've scored a 2nd but wasn't a bad effort.

There is one player facing criticism because he is the only one dropping changers. Sticking out like a sore thumb in a team which otherwise works their bollocks off for the badge.

Why? Is it underachieving academy players that get defended that have caused us to have years of underachieving? Or is there a bigger picture at the heart of our ongoing issues?

These threads kept coming up and I kept saying he's been fine. Today he was not fine. Wouldn't mind a replacement or to give RCC to game.

I am sure Tony Mowbray has the goalie situation weighed up, I have stuck up for Leigj Burge on here but I watched him close today all be it from the telly his main fault is he doesn't command his area enough verbally or tactically. In his defence Stokes and Johnson had shakey tes today but that's when an experienced keeper earns his money verbally. Problem TM has does he drop him for another rookie, we are winning after all but put Charles-Cooke in and he has a howler what then ?My worry now though is every manager in our league knows now to to lob high looping balls towards him

I'm pretty Sure Mr Mowbray was fairly shocked by Burge again today. He is a weak link and the defence are nervous with him behind them. Priority for me is a replacement.
Great result though to add to a fantastic weekend. Mowbray really does seem to get 10% extra out of the players. I was a sceptic before the season started but I'm becoming a convert with each performance. Murphy is another good find to go with a few others. The manager really has shown he can pick a player and they all want to run their guts out for the team now.
Good win for City
Good win for Cov Rugby

...................Pleased to see Wasps lose , especially as a group of guys left the Craven St pub I was in pre game yesterday to go over to the Ricoh !

Did you see their keeper for our second goal...he came for the cross and didn't get near it...I'd be more worried about burge if he didn't come for crosses..he's still learning...get off his back...

He's in a League 1 team trying to get promoted to the championship, he can learn out on loan somewhere else - and how long does he get to learn before that's translated into some actual improvement anyway? If he ends up costing us points that cost us a top 6 finish, I'll be fucking livid. It's painfully obvious to the majority that it's a question of when the calamity is coming, not if.

I said before season started Mowbray would give Burgess his chance. I also said picking up good keepers on loan is easier than other positions. Once Premireship teams and Championship teams settle Mowbray will bring in a good keeper on loan.

By the way Burge hasn't cost us any points this season. That is not an apology to anyone.

He didn't come for a cross on Monday and Southend scored. The worst of both worlds.

wer'e 2nd in the league...give it a rest...fleck gave the ball away , reda tried to go past players and gave it away. O brien didn't have a great game...what if he hadn't come for those crosses and a burton player got on the end of it...the teams fine as it is...enjoy it

Ricketts was quick to take the blame for that on behalf of the defense on CWR after the game. Basically said that the defense didn't clear the line quick enough to give Burge the room to make the save.

It wasn't across him so not necessarily an easy take. Fullback and midfield allowed the cross too easy and both central defenders gave their attacker a free header. We were still set up defending a corner. Burgess 5th in line for any blame and that shows how fans are being biased
