Now i know penalties are hard to save
However, by the time the one last night was struck, Burge was virtually already on the floor by his left hand post

At least, make yourself big, and go late
it is clear why he has hardly ever saved one (I think he did once)

This should be basic coaching

This thread is the equivalent of worrying if the toenails on your left foot are clipped neatly when you've just had your right leg amputated.

Then you would accuse him of standing still and post a thread titled Burge Again!

Not the midfielders who fail to create anything? Or the strikers that don't score?

I'd like to know why he was selected ahead of O'Brien. How is Burge first choice in the first place?

We are talking about the basics = when I stay stand still, I dont mean look frightened, it is a mind game, and by throwing yourself into a corner, 2 seconds before the penalty is taken doesnt give you a hope

Not as bad as worrying if your toenails are clipped neatly on the right leg that's just been amputated.

Because he's the better keeper.

Is didn’t think I would ever say it but I was more worried on Saturday with O’Brien than I have been with burge recently and they are equally bad at distributing the ball.

ive heard some rubbish said about Burge, from people that obviously dont know too much about football & find it easy to just blame the keeper, but having a go for him for not saving penalty ( that was tucked neatly in the corner by the way ) is right up there with the most stupid of the lot.

he got picked above O'Brien, because he is a better keeper, end of

He was gambling. If you’re going to save penalties, that is what you have to do. It’s amazing how some fans make one player a scapegoat, especially when he is nowhere near our best player. Ridiculous thread.

Yay! At least he's cocking up for someone else now.

That was always his problem, coming out for stuff when he probably didn't need to, or coming out for stuff and just not getting there.

Maybe because he has the most clean sheets in the league?

Tightest defence in the league, fewest goals conceded including the 8 teams above us, but lets have yet another go at the keeper who has made many saves. His distribution is awful, but that's not going to change and we're a league 2 side with a league 2 keeper. 25 still relatively young for a keeper btw and he wont hit his peak until 30+, so many years of improvement still ahead.

If we want to apportion blame then it should really be as a collective. Individual mistakes will always happen, but if I was going away from that collective and looking for a scapegoat then many ahead of Burge. I'd be looking at poor team selection, too many penalties conceded, not being clinical enough in front of goal and nowhere near enough goals from midfield. I'd also add Biamou who despite his likability and workrate, has still only scored one league goal and that was against RCC - see above!

He doesn’t, he has the third most. Beyond Cambridge’s Forde and Luton’s Stech

One criticism I have of burge and this was clear last night is that he’s too slow to take some kicks. At least 4 times last night we’d have been 2v2 or 2v3 if he’d looked up and kicked it long a bit quicker. Instead he’ll hold the ball and wait for the opposition to get numbers back and get their shape. Frustrates me immensely.

Likely he'd have then rushed it and not found the man anyhow. I want to see him throw it more. From the edge of the box he should comfortably reach half way and I Would guess more accurately and faster.

It was obvious at points last night that Robins had instructed him to kick it or roll it out to the defenders because he didn't trust him to kick it long. Burge kicked one out just by Robins and he gave him a terrible look and there were a lot fewer punts after that.

First of all that penalty was just a joke.

Secondly, I think there’s no way he should be conceding that header.

This is hilarious, for all the wrong reasons.

The OP has made a thread about a GK not saving a pen... shocker...

What? It's a free header from 6 yards with Hyam and McDonald blaming eachother for not getting close to the scorer

Well it's pointless worrying about the toenails on your right foot anymore!

my comment was about Burge increasing the %ages. not putting them at zero
I have played in goal at a reasonable level, and I am talking about giving yourself a chance

It is not specifically about yesterday , but his overall poor record at saving penalties

some keepers are very good at it for a reason
Burge is not - also for a reason

How can his chances of saving a penalty be at zero? All he did was dive the wrong way watching the highlights back?

He actually saved two last season. Shrewsbury away and Peterborough at home. He also saved one at Millwall away when we won 4-0. If you say what he’s faced 10 penalties (a guess) in the last 3 seasons and saved 3 that isn’t bad at all? That’s not a poor record, that would actually put him up there with the best
