I don't have the knowledge but I hope someone will, if CCFC want to build a new stadium inside the city boundaries on a piece of land they have bought legally and all the correct procedures are followed what right (in law) does the council have to refuse permission?

What if Sisu bought the Rugby ground and re-developed the 3 sides of the ground (which already have permission) would this be a viable option or could the council stop that too?

The council would welcome it.

People cant even get planning permission to put a bike lane on Hearsall common, I reckon they should close Hearsall golf course and build on that HS2 is being built next to it so its going to be ruined anyway.

I think it would be pretty easy for them to find a way to reject an application for permission. I think they could find things wrong with any plans if they wanted to?

I did think for sometime that they might think of the old Jaguar site up by me behind Brown's Lane, to my horror.

The Council have every right to reject planning applications on any grounds that they see fit. For instance I live in Bedworth and someone applied to turn a shop into a takeaway. This was rejected as there are too many takeaways in the current area. CCC would have no problem refusing permission for a new Stadium within the City as there is one that's not being used at the moment and they are not looking to have a City full of white Elephants.
n.b. Building regulations are the regulations that must be worked to when constructing a building, planning permissions is the topic that is being discussed here.

They can't just reject it on 'grounds they see fit'. They must refer to the appropriate planning guidance / policy framework.

Referring to the OP the rugby ground option has been mentioned before and usually poo-pooed on here due to location and parking etc but the ground currently holds 4500 and I believe has outline planning permission to develop the 3 other sides so lets assume the current capacity is quadruled to 16000 and the ground is used for rugby and football the idea is not that remote. So the opening question being if all the boxes are ticked could our council reject you would have to say no surely.

I always thought that CCC owned the butts! Not sure if they lease it to crfc on a long lease or rent it out though.

Isn't that site still owned by TATA?

God knows, a few more big houses being built on the Brown's Lane side mate but the larger commercial area at the back is still the same. All I can remember from before is that Peugeot had outline planning which took them an age to get, when they went for full it just went tits up due to the amount of resident anger towards the idea. You around for xmas as thinking about a drink about the 28th.
