I thought the suggestion was that shifting BTA would finance the Grimes deal.

@Saddlebrains ?

The Grimes deal is being fronted but the majority of it will be coming back from a player sale, that player attracting solid interest is BTA, there were more then Blackburn in for him

Makes sense. And if we can turn a profit it’s a good deal imo

We have to keep the books balanced, its good that it can be fronted and are not being forced immediately into any sales that aren't on our terms. Its a far cry from the dramatic rubbish we were getting from GIMOC (as per).

Might be silly but if Wright left wouldn’t mind a punt on the Wycombe ST. Seems a very good player. Would also need a left winger to come in

Not sure that a season ticket at Wycombe will help our injury problems

BTA is under a long term contract 3.5 years to go and has scored 5 goals and 1 assist.

Going to cost double what we paid for him.

No one's going to pay £5m for him. He's scored 3 goals and 1 assist in 28 league appearances, even if you include cup is 5 in 32 games, his career is no more than a 1 in 4.

Perhaps but it seemed like we’d found a way to get him performing better recently, so I don’t want it biting us on the arse.

He needs a good midfield to feed him - his recent goals from assists - he is never picking the ball up dribbling and scoring - he is a receiver and that’s it

Strange complaint to make TBH. Simms or Bassette I can see that argument but BTA is about the only fit striker who drops deep and carries the ball.

Wonder if there is any solid interest in Sheaf. Amazing how football changes purely on results. We’re now happy with BTA, Torp, Allen and Kitching!

Yeah.

If you had said that a couple of months ago you would have been laughed out of court.

What is his goals per minute like? That is usually a better stat as goals per games treats 5 mins sub appearances the same as full games.

Everybody seems happy to overlook simms poor stats so far because he doesn't start all the time , BTA has played less minutes has started 11 games this season and has a better goal per minute record than Simms too

I can see they both have high non penalty xG, BTAs finishing looks horrendous though from what i can make out.

I remember seeing a graph of Championship strikers finishing and Simms + BTA were amongst the worst for finding the corners in the entire division. They both love smashing the ball straight at the keeper.

They’ve both been overlooked. BTA has spent a lot of time being played out of position and Simms playing 10-20 minutes here and there.

They’ve both often had 20-30 minutes cameos and it’s not a lot of time to impact a game.

Obviously BTA has some reasonable attributes but finishing doesn't seem to be one of them, but thats not what riles me up the most and it pretty much confirms what i thought i'd been seeing... that fucking pass completion! When the ball gets to BTA, it seems to end with BTA and it drives me mad! Obviously i can see Simms isn't much better and honestly i think he's been pretty honking this season.
Mild improvements in both recently, lets hope it continues.

I wonder if they count simms flicks etc in passes as from what I’ve seen he definitely seems to keep us in possession a fair bit more than BTA. I love BTAs attitude and effort but agree retaining possession isn’t a strong point !
