He said it was a bonus didn't he? Though it was a bit sketchy. The y-o-y pension contributions do not differ too much so the story about it being a bonus sounds a bit more plausible.

Bonus is still part of his remuneration by reason of his employment. He earnt £588k plus pension. That is what would have been reported to HMRC

The guy putting the questions quoted him the wrong figure, but it was probably a bonus paid to him at least in part

What is strange is that he received such a bonus before the deal with Tesco was actually completed. The option to purchase the site (part of which was sold to Tesco) lapsed during 2001/02. So CCFC who paid him the bonus never actually completed a deal with Tesco

Yeah I thought that was odd, although he said it wasn't so much a bonus as a payment in lieu of paying for one of the big agents to do the deal.
