Still a fortnight to go, a long time in football, the Chaplin transfer and what looks to me Bright not happening might lead to a Robins re-think

If every club had the replacement sorted out, it becomes like a housing chain only worse. You are all waiting for one link in the chain to sort themselves out. You have to recognize that it is not always possible to have someone lined up.
Last year three of out top 5 players were loans. Only Kelly and Hyam were not. In the promotion season we did not do well on loans, and that was a missing. The team that starts the next season will have only two from the side that beat Notts County in 2017 (Kelly & Hyam plus Jones injured). In that sense loans are not short term at all, but medium term. This partly why I am distrustful of 3 year contracts - "settled teams" are largely mythological

It actually reassures me in a way that we have thought about how to fund this season all of a sudden.

I mean have we sold ourselves short? Both Hiwula and Bakayoko would have been ahead of him in terms of Robins’ team, I’d hazard a guess Biamou is aswell.

Chaplin going isn’t like McNulty leaving

I’m not that bothered about walker rather a more established league 1 striker Marquis would be ideal for our 4231.

I'm really starting to debate whether Walker is right for us. Had a re-watch of his highlights today and it seems best utilised when in and around the 6-yard box - similar to Chaplin. Also, I could be wrong but I don't think he wasn't playing on his own up top at Mansfield - yet both systems we're looking to use features a lone striker.

Marquis would be great but Doncaster want £1M and we won't/can't spend that on a 27 year old - regardless of how good he is.

Well no I don't think we have in regards to our options, as Chaplin I don't think was getting into our starting 11 no matter if we played 433 or 4231. I agree, I think he was down the pecking order as his attributes didn't, unfortunatley, seem to fit into what Robins wants.

I just hope we have someone to replace him soon, and be better suited to our style.

I would rather have not sold Chaplin, but I don’t think he would have started the season in Starting XI.

Hiwula is our top goalscorer, Bakayoko was slightly favoured toward the end of the season and we’ve been seemingly pursuing Walker for a little while.

Let’s see how things go!

I'm incredibly positive and optimistic for this season. Think we have got a good deal with Chaplin, only regret being we didnt get to see his full potential. Hope Robins can get whoever he has highlighted as his replacement in as soon as possible.

I'm very hopeful Jobello and Kastaneer will score and provide some goals this season.
Also think Kastaneer can play up front aswell so we have that option aswell. So we could have Hiwula Kastaneer Jobello as a front 3.

I actually think Biamou could be quite useful in terms of goals this year, obviously he will get a few worldies, but I think of him as being better in the air than Bakayoko and with Jobellos delivery he could feed off that!

In fairness to all our strikers last season, we didn’t have wingers that put dangerous crosses in the right areas last season.

It’s not so much our ‘system’ per se, at times we just didn’t put the ball in dangerous areas enough.

That’s not brushing over the fact that our attacking players missed a lot guilt edged chances, Hiwula, Bakayoko, JCH, Thomas and Chaplin to name a few.

If Kastaneer and Jobello have good production, our strikers will also see the benefit!

Pace and work rate yes, end product no. There were a number of much better wingers in the division last season.

Agreed, but he was also v inefficient at converting chances.

You criticise our strikers a lot, yet Thomas is without a doubt the biggest offender in missed guilt-edge chances last season. Even Robins was quoted as saying he should’ve had ‘at least’ 30 goals. I say this as a big admirer of Thomas and Thomas himself knows he needs to do better, he even apologised to the fans after the Pompey (a) game!

Hypothetically, I would genuinely prefer two less talented wingers who are more efficient with their chances and assists than Thomas.

I was never convinced about the clamour for Chaplin, and he has done nothing to convince me he was the amswer. To move him on at a profit is good business and hasnt really weakened us.

Moving players out or in isnt always easy, it is a complicated business. There was no justifiable reason for hanging onto Chaplin considering the offer that was made.

Jamal Lowe was also much better. Thomas was up there with the best wingers in the league until he got into the box. That’s what separates him from the top wingers in league one, his lack of end product.

We have made a trading profit on a player who is at best not suitable to our way of playing, and at worst an overpriced dud. Finding the right striker is really difficult, so if you can move them through so much the better. He was never going to do 10 goals a season

Didn’t he get 8 from 22 starts last year? Why would he not get 10 next season?
