Simon - ML said that the CET didn't help with talks, and he didn't tell you that you couldn't write about it - because the talks didn't happen. The council said no.

I am not suggesting you are lying, I am just repeating what ML said. Like I said to him, it is quite tiresome when fans are mislead - so what is the truth?

Did he state why he or sisu wanted talks though? 1 month ago and obviously before they didn't want to know.

Apparently ML reads this, so maybe he can confirm directly or via someone here that has his ear.

If it's really the case that SISU are prepared to talk to the council about dropping the JR so that negotiations can begin about all of the other stuff, then that's a story to my ears and one that deserves to be told.

But yes, you know me, and I'd really like some evidence that shows why the JR can't be dropped - I'm not much for taking things (about all this stuff anyway) at face value.

(And you do really know me btw but your PM system is full, so I can't respond to your message via that. We played on the same footy team lots of times, even appeared at HR once (no one's going to believe that). Tall, clean-shaven, good-looking, lot and lots of hair - I've got none of that stuff. I ran the team for a bit. Now you've got it! Don't out me though, please, I've ticked the box for no publicity.)

In Cov circles I started doing this back in the late 90's as there was a bunch of us trying to find out more about the running of the club and get hold of some shares. One of the things that came out of that time was the first Trust meeting (it died for a bit but then was taken up again by Nigel Eccles and others to become the Sky Blue Trust).

From the Save our City campaign a meeting was held in a pub at an away game, not sure what game this was, a number of Coventry city web masters and "faces" had a meeting and spoke about a trust, Nigel was at that meeting and it was muted that he be the front of the trust because he wasn't known (this was before he took over GMK from Nev) Nigel spoke to me about is and dragged me along to the next meeting which was held at the Shakespeare pub if I remember rightly. A number of those original guys didn't want anything to do with it (I won't name names) for reasons of either worried about legal threats/ action (this was not long after The legal threat to Nev) others called it a day because Nigel made it clear at the time (as he had done a lot of work prior to the meeting) that it would be a Trust in the true sense of what a trust should be, and not be a protest group.
We had leaflets printed and Nigel, myself and members of our families gave out Trust leaflets and a freezing afternoon when we played Derby away (2003 I think) advertising a meeting to tell fans what we were about (even at that point there was no trust as we had to be ratified) the meeting was held at the supporters club attended by a fair number of City fans with Nigel, Myself and someone from supporters direct (name escapes me) we spoke to everyone and took names of people who would be interested. We then had numerous meetings (around 6 or so) just to write our constitution to submit to become a trust. (I think it was similar to registering to become a mutual and providence society at the time although I think the name type has changed now)
Through all of this process I don't ever remember seeing you attend any of the meeting and I actually have our first members list (my membership number is number 1 ) I will check through it again and apologise if I'm wrong.
I'm sure smiles reads this forum from time to time and can add more. His head is bigger than mine and can hold much more information.

The first meeting was Sept 22 at the Supporters Club in Freehold St. with the provisional name of CCST. Very much a 'let's see what happens with this idea' and it all went quiet for a while after that & I wasn't involved with later meetings etc. I passed all of the documents I had from back then to Lionel Bird via Michael Orton back in September so all the details there (inc. attendees details and the flyer I did with the date on).

I've got a bunch of emails from around that time too.

235 votes for an independent I would suggest isn't a bad result.

When I lived in the New Bilton area of Rugby (right on the door step of Rugby Cements Plant) we had an independent stand on the single issue of stopping Rugby Cements attempts to get a licence to burn old car tyres in their kilns. This was a big story locally and there was lots of opposition in Rugby to it yet the independent only just made 3 figures in votes.

So I don't think it's a disaster. Rob is just going to have to be clever in how he uses this result against the council.

I'm well aware Mark reads the forums. As do many others.

Mr Labovitch certainly did ask us not to run anything, at least while he made the initial approaches to the council.

I have a record of the telephone conversation if we really need to go down the "I was misquoted route" again.

As for reporting the present situation, as I said previously, "still no talks" isn't much of a story.

We have urged all sides, both publicly and privately, to contact each other and sort this mess out - including several conversations with the various parties around a fortnight ago.

As good as it is for web traffic to have a public slanging match on an almost daily basis, I can assure you our preference would be to have the football club back in the city as soon as possible.

That is the best possible outcome for everyone as far as I can tell.

Ahh yes, I remember that meeting, that took place after the meetings I referred to. That meeting came out the back of the previous meetings. Out of those attendees only myself, Kev Monks and Joe Rukin continued with the route Nigel pushed forward along with Lionel Bird.

That's interesting. I might have read this wrong but I thought it was a third party trying to get in contact but maybe it was ML who contacted the council? If so or even the third party then why? What's changed?

I agree Simon we need Cov back in Cov ASAP for absolutely everyone involved bigtime. It benefits no one including Otium to be in Northampton. I can only pray something gives which I believe it has to.

Nice to see Simon is trying to increase circulation of the dwindling Council Evening Telegraph readership.

Thanks for replying Simon. Again I want to say I am not calling you a liar, but it is getting to the point where hard evidence is needed just to prove the silly things.

I'm getting really fed up with all of this.....

Is this the same Nigel that dramatically announced he would not be renewing his season ticket, causing Vic Minette to metaphorically reach for the razer blades?

But, as you stated earlier, no one in Coventry cares about the football club.

Therefore why would CCFC stories increase circulation?

Trouble we an all juggle with the figures and make them look thhe way we want them.

People saying that the people of holbrooks don't care where we play?
That is probably right over 50% of the electorate in that area don't even come from Coventry never mind support the team. So why should they?

SimonGilbert said:
That's certainly another way of looking at it. However, I'm not sure it's particularly useful for any sort of context unless you apply the same measure to the other candidates.
