Brian Kilcline Returns For Coventry City

PUBLISHED

12:00 27th January 2014

Brian 'Killer' Kilcline will be our special guest when Notts County face Coventry City at Meadow Lane on Saturday 8 February.

Kilcline was a hugely successful product of the Magpies youth set-up and City’s captain when they lifted the FA Cup in 1987.
Having played for South Notts Schoolboys, Kilcline first arrived at Meadow Lane in 1978 on associate schoolboy forms.
Two year later, on his 18th birthday in May 1980, he signed professional forms before which he had already made his Notts debut - in a Football League Cup tie against Torquay United in August 1979.

His first League appearance was in October of the same year, against Bristol Rovers.
He made 184 League and Cup appearances, and was an ever-present as a key player in the squad that took Notts into the First Division in 1981.
Kilcline cost Coventry £60,000 in the summer of 1984 and, in his time there, his value soared so that Oldham Athletic paid a fee of £400,000 to secure his services in August, 1991.

His move to Newcastle a year later led to another great triumph.
During five years at St James' Park he captained United to the First Division title in 1993.
BBC Radio Nottingham’s Colin Slater will be asking Kilcline about his fascinating career in Wheeler's Suite, before the kick-off against Coventry.
