Triumph Motorcycles Meriden became a workers cooperative with the toolmakers getting the same money as the floor sweepers - 50 quid a week. Tony Benn gave the workers' board millions- last seen heading for the Caribbean. At the end all that was left was the badge.

A bit of anorak trivia perhaps but if you compare them, not even the badge used on the present Triumphs is the same as the old Meriden ones. It's the name that remains.

More importantly, Brexit has hit home for me this morning. A friend of mine has just returned from the US on business and as per previous trips, I always ask him to get me a 1 litre bottle of Grey Goose as it's cheaper importing than buying here.

Normally, said 1ltr bottle is £23. Now, after Brexit...£30.

I'm in bits here...

the vote was 52/48 or something. about as even as it gets. this is pretty much the only time that something like this isnt shitting on the british people as they are not ignoring a large majority.

also it seems most leave voters regret their decision so maybe majority is now stay.

As usual it'll be the poorest and most vulnerable who are hit the hardest, while the rich and the elite who misled and encouraged them to vote for it will carry on as usual.

Are you talking about now, or 40 years ago? From where I'm sitting 40 years on, there's no difference!

Living standards have certainly improved in Europe over the last 40 years. The elite from all political sides will continue to exploit ordinary citizens and has little to do with the EU and is the same around the world.

Something needs to change politically to make politicians more accountable and to stop abusing their power. However expecting the likes of David Davis, Liam Werrity-Fox and Boris Johnson to protect and fight for the working classes is deluded

It is due to the ever increasing differences between the haves and have nots within our society. There were major social issues in this country which are a result of UK government policies, sadly now rather than addressing them the country will be consumed by Brexit.

It's not surprising that the vast majority of those outside of the UK who speak favourably of Brexit are members of openly far right parties.

Where have you been? The EU doesn't govern us. We have trade rules from the EU, but if, say, we want to bomb brown people, we do it with the USA and the EU has little or no say. To blame the EU for our shit government is really taking the propaganda war to the extreme.

All of those issues have nothing to do with the EU. It's the perfect excuse of ensuring the government is held accountable for nothing and gets swallowed as the truth by the gullible

We'll be better off financially there and be happier. There is more chance of the UK falling apart than the EU and not long until it's 1€ for 1£.

The point was 'if'.

But, we are bombing ISIS and we bombed Iraq. Maybe the Arabs are not brown enough, but the exact colour is not the point. We can bomb virtually any colour people - as long as they are not EU - and the EU has little or no say. Do you dispute that?

Yes there is, as I said earlier 40 years ago the working class were exactly that 'working"
Since the shift towards financial services the working class have been sacrificed.
Now we have a massive underclass who are kept in a docile, ignorant, vegetative state
By being fed endless supplies of (cheap as chips) supermarket alcohol and easily grown
At home super strength weed, the elite will never have to co-habit with these people but
We have to.
I would say the ruling classes now have the *working class* exactly where they want
Them, while the right wing media have done such a good job that it's the poor that get
The blame, even off the poor.
E.g. Single mum of 7 on benefits is given 4 bedroom house in Grimsby, is given the
Front page of national newspapers and creates uproar and disgust among working
Classes.
Multi millionaire pop star Gary Barlow and Multi millionaire comedian Jimmy Carr
(among Many others) are caught red handed avoiding paying their lawful taxes,
And the general attitude is "you'd do it if you could" and their reputation isn't even
Slightly tarnished.
This country is truly fucked. IMHO

It still doesn't give creedence to the Euro Eliteists. I'm sure Britain will prosper under "Own Rule" and have a great relationship with the rest of the Economic World as well as the EU.

Well, maybe Britain will, maybe not. Our elite from Eton and the likes of Dulwich College, plus certain newspaper owners will certainly prosper. They obviously don't like the EU as it challenges their status by e.g. guaranteeing equal rights and workers' rights.

40 years ago I was 7 and attended st Giles school in Bedworth, my Dad was
a maintenance foreman at the standard in canley, my mum worked at Britvic
On bayton Rd. My classmates parents worked at numerous places such as
RRoyce, Courtaulds, Jaguar, Lenton & Brey, Herbert's among many others,
But everyone worked and paid their way.
If you went too the same school today, took a random 7 year old and asked
The same question,I think the results would be very very different .

My father was Rootes and my mother started work at the Standard as a secretary. Rootes was screwed because of Linwood and bought by Chrysler. Then came strike after strike - including sabotage of the production line. Chrysler offered to sell the whole lot to the Labour government for 10 quid. An example of shit government- nothing to do with the EU. What a mess.
