You tend to get what you pay for. As well as being project players they were also all very cheap. Its a gamble. Some have paid off at that sort of level - Saka/Thomas. Worth having a punt sometimes.

I've said earlier heading that ball was the wrong decision, he should have let it drop and ran after it to shepherd it back to safety.

Didn’t think the championships most expensive player ever got much change out of him to be honest…. Granted he played Clarke on side for the Rushworth worldie but it’s not like Bobby Thomas doesn’t do this week in week out while waving his hand in the air.

And Bidwell’s performance on Boxing Day was an embarrassment for such a seasonal pro.

If Bidwell's only a seasonal pro, he's not going to be match fit.

Vik was never a project he cost £1m which was up there with our most expensive signings. Only Hamer cost more IIRC.

Brau is a skyblue so therefore I support and encourage him. He has been thrown in in 2 big games because of a reckless challenge by an experienced player. I’m with him.

Well, the coaching staff turned Dasilva into a solid LB; they can do it with Brau.

Isn’t it odd how fanbases label a footballer as ‘shit’ when they haven’t had enough games to get into the pace and swing of Championship football?

It took Wright almost half of a season to do so. Torp took almost a year.

Dasilva used to get all kinds of flak and was called useless and shite.

Look where he is now.

Brau doesn't look good enough, but I think we need to at least give him time to develop.

When Kelman is level with him he should have chopped him down for the yellow. Even the most pant shitting of refs couldn’t have dismissed him for that.

Nothing we've seen so far from Brau has shown him to be more than an interesting punt in the foreign market. He definitely hasn't yet looked like a reliable defender, and the complete misjudgement against Charlton reinforces that.

Equally, he's shown a few hints of potential with the ball, and as has already been said it can sometimes take players quite a while to adjust to the unforgiving environment of this league. I really don't understand the relish some people have for caustic criticism of our players.

Difference here is people were wrong when they called Dasilva shit purely because he was short when he was clearly one of the best technicians in the squad from day one.

Brau is following the well trodden path of freebie a cheap foreigners as seen with Kastaneer, Dacosta, Raphael, an even the more expensive foreigners like Bassette. You can’t coach a lack of footballing ability into a player if they don’t have it and all of those looked like competition winners and never got better.

Yeah get that. He's on a 4 year contract though isn't he.

Think he would have to agree to leave by mutual consent

Basically this. Anyone with eyes could see Dasilva was an excellent technical footballer. Just struggled with some defensive aspects of the game. I think his main improvement under Lampard has been ability in 1v1 situations.

If I were him I wouldn’t. Mans about to be a PL player! I think it’s a tough one cos generally players won’t move country without some guarantees but personally I’d just not sign freebies from abroad. They seem much more of a risk.

Feel like Brau has been largely fine if you ignore that catastrophic error (feels a bit silly to say that but still).

Thought he defended well vs Ipswich, passing was off but so was everyone’s. Looked tidy going forward vs Charlton. Just plays like he’s got so much adrenaline going through him sometimes, needs to just calm down.

I imagine (barring disaster), that he’ll end up following a similar path to Rafa and Tavares in that they’re brought in as development players but we then over achieve and outgrow them rapidly. Bit of the same reason why we haven’t had a top level academy contributor for what’s felt like ages (outside of I guess Eccles).

People writing him off this quickly does feel a bit silly mind but we had people saying the entire squad was shite 14 months ago so not really that surprised.

His attacking positioning is weird.

In the friendlies and then again against Charlton there were times when we'd have the ball on the left and he'd shift himself onto the toes of our own number 9.

I presumed it was tactical from Lampard but it seems mad for a player with 2 career goals to his name to rock up there rather than overlap the winger.

Time to adapt?

I’d understand if he was new and he wasn’t sure whether his role was to high press or stand off and zonal mark or rotate or whatever. He’s been here a long while and should exactly know the CCFC tactics.

The issues of being unable to hold on to the ball, follow a defensive line and stay with his mark and know not to do showboat keepy-uppies and give corners away…..?

Those are not “time to adopt” issues.

Let’s stop hand-wringing over some of these players. Brau has been playing like he’s not been paying attention in training, and let’s not say “poor little foreign man, he needs to learn the language and we need to give him special allowances” or I’ll point to how quickly Tats learned his role.
Yes time to adapt

It's like all those academy players who learn the club's tactics and philosophy for 10 years, and then struggle in their first few appearances for the first team... Do you also assume they haven't been listening in training or do they just need time on the pitch to adjust to the higher level?

The reality is it is very hard moving to a new environment, new country, and playing at a higher level than ever before, and the fact Tats managed it so well is testament to him, not to the detriment of all the players who take a bit more time.

For the record I haven't been impressed with Brau's performances so far either, and I bet he, his teammates and coaches feel similarly. But just like with every single other development signing, there's a chance that with some more time on the pitch in the Championship his decision making and match fitness with grow to the required levels and he will be a success.

That won't happen if as some posters have suggested we 'send him back to Spain' after a handful of appearances.

Ultimately Dasilva’s rash tackle has probably cost us at least four points - dropping two at Saints when in total control and away at Charlton. Will be great to have him back in the team - agree with the comments above that he’s always looked an excellent technician (and must be a heck of a 5-a-side player).

Brau needs to calm down as has looked absolutely manic.
