Before last night he'd made one appearance across October, November and December, and Lampard thought it was a good idea to throw him in against Ipswich. It's on Lampard.

Bidwell hasn't played much football lately and is on the decline, its more on the squad. I'm not sure we would have been any stronger with Bidwell than Brau last night.

The passing was shocking to a man last night. Even Grimes was poor by his standards.

Shame some have to constantly single out players for criticism yet let others off scott free.

I agree, although it's inevitable that Brau is singled out on this thread because it's one purely about him.

His ball retention was awful and as others said, he totally switched off for the second goal.

He was a cheap punt so it’s no big deal, under usual circumstances he wouldn’t be playing anyway, but it seems likely that the club will outgrow him before he can truly settle here.

As he has barely been used he was probably trying to hard to impress and was forcing things he may normally do naturally., a tough game to come in for.

I mean, we have seen lots of teams go up and try to play the same way - so im not sure it's irrelevant.

I hope that we would change!

If we didn't we'd need a huge injection of pace in the backine and midfield.

Both goals were due to our full back not being able to defend. It was Van Ewijk to blame for both though, not Brau. Just before the goal he also waved Clarke through to put a dangerous cross in that came to nothing and that itself was about 5 minutes after Clarke got in behind him again and inexcusably hit the ball out for a goal kick with the outside of his foot. That’s just a 15 minutes after sample of how to ignore defending according to MVE. There is more.

Agreed that MVE was poor but he has clearly suffered more than most from flu, and has played through a glut of games recently when he probably needed more recovery time. I'm not sure the upcoming two games coming so fast helps that either, and bearing that in mind I was a bit surprised he played the whole game last night.

I thought he was pretty inoffensive.

On the ball he started really poorly, but I put that down to nerves and lack of match sharpness. We were also against the best team we’ve seen here this season in terms of nullifying how we play.

We play on the front foot / others actually play well and I think he’d have grown in confidence and looked a different player.

Was random to start him for this game of all games though.

Also, don’t forget half this forum hated JDS last season (some definitely still do). Albeit it was clear he always had ability and could be an asset in the right system.

Compare JDS retention of possession ( a major problem for us last night) and his ability to pick out a pass down the wing.
Feel sorry for Brau. Worst possible game to come into the team where we weren't at the races, and that goes for all our players apart from Rushworth.

this is it. Judging his capability on the back of that game alone seems mad to me. No one but Rushworth was on it. We got outplayed and he struggled.

He looked nervous and tried to be too quick going forwards.
Defensively he was OK (apart from the keepups).

MVE was worse.

In the lads defence, being thrown into the team during arguably its toughest spell of form, in a formation we aren’t playing often, with barely any minutes all season, never mind in English football ever - is a stitch up.

That header raised ghosts of Pressley back in the day……be amazed if he ever starts again and more concerned he’s apparently our only viable option to JDS if KKH is now out for a spell, competition winner living the dream

I’m afraid that mistake is on Lampard bringing him on, very predictable. Bidwell made more sense in the scenario.

I wonder if Bidwell is not fully fit or maybe suffering from the bug that's gone round.

I was very surprised Brau played 90 mins against Ipswich having not done so since August, so I thought Bidwell maybe wasn't 100%. And then today bringing Brau on ahead of him when we're under the cosh seemed odd.

The guy made a mistake. It happens. He’s being hung out to dry on here. But the wider context is we were well under the cosh when he came on. He’s to blame for their equaliser. But we’re a small, tired, ill squad - that’s the real issue.

I’m not so forgiving of the “thrown in at the deep end” excuse.

He’s been here all season, would have taken part in every first team training session, played practice matches and gone through the drills, and (hopefully) watched every game. He’s not a new signing unsure of our shape. He’s not a youth player.

Now then, Frank is either trying to prove a point to Doug (see what I have to deal with Mr Chairman?), or Bidwell’s been caught commenting on Frank’s hairline and is in the naughty corner.

Can we all stop singing that cringe song now please.

Or…

If Bidwell is ill or in the dog house, Kitching wide and Woolfendon on in his place.

MVE got pelters for the back pass in the play offs - that was a mistake from a bloke who is of much better stock. Brau just doesn't look the part. He's a mistake waiting to happen. I never really criticise players, they are much better than me, but I can see why many on here want a new LB despite having 3 who could play that position behind JDS.
