People get injured / suspended too. The aim surely is for whoever comes in at that point to make themselves undroppable.

great shout. Very green but all the potential for me and no local rivalry involved. Not sure on the fee

A bang average player who was top scorer for a team that finished higher than us?
I can see you've made your mind up but you're talking nonsense. He'd be a good signing for us.

He scored 11 goals for a top 6 team as their main striker, not a great return.

I agree, he'd be a decent squad player, but not at that price and I'm sure we can find better out there

He's scored 18 in 2 seasons, not impressive at all. Spending millions on a bang average championship player would be a mistake.

People seem to forget where we were a few seasons ago, £2-3m would have been our biggest signing in 20 years and now we're happy to blow that on this guy?

He's unlikely to appreciate in value as he's already 25 and will struggle to consistently start over Simms.

Do not see why anyone wants him. It would be so underwhelming.

I can’t see us going for him as WBA will charge a premium. It doesn’t feel like our market to pay money for other Championship players. Will be over inflated.

doesn't he have a year left though? That reduces his price

Whilst I think it would be a great signing isn’t this purely guesswork based on the fact someone has suggested we are after a 25 year old striker? I haven’t seen any credible links whatsoever.

a bit like BTA but more raw I’d argue

I mean, if we're judging players based solely on their most basic stats, Sinclair Armstrong would be absolutely pulled to pieces on here.

What is 'that' price though? It'll be like the Rudoni thing all over again. I very much doubt we'll overpay.

Okay, how about given we have a number 9 that unless there is a big shock or injury will start, what level of player do people think we could get in to challenge them and wouldn't expect to be the 9 in most games?

As ever, price is key. If (if) he were £5mil I'd agree entirely with you, but I'd be hopeful he wouldn't be.

What I'd like us to do while we're at it is look around for the EMCs and BTAs that were signed by Peterborough and West Brom - get the £300k signings in as well. It's fair to say though we're currently restricted in having to play one up front if anything happens to Wright or Simms, which makes us quite inflexible in terms of tactics. Currently we've zero competiton / cover, and if you think at the back we can pick from four established Championship level defenders, in midfield we have half a dozen of them... we do need a striker.

If the price is right then he’s a good signing, if not then worth buying someone with potential to sell on at a later date. I think it comes down to price with Asante.

It's this for me. If we really want to challenge for automatic promotion - and that is where I want us to be, not in the play off lottery - we don't need back-up players. We need players who might not be first choice in week 1 next season but easily could be first choice, and would be first choice elsewhere. That's the sort of strength in depth that means real competition, substitutes who can come on in a game and make a real difference, players who can come in in busy periods without really weakening the team etc.

Half our fans really have stockholm syndrome from the last few years dont they.

Really convinced we just need an extremely strong starting XI then an immediate drop off in quality after that.

Exactly that. We've already seen examples of building the squad this summer and not just the first XI. Prime example of it, is the Binks transfer. We then saw people saying the Kitching must be sold etc etc! Kitching is going nowhere.

Pointless thread. There are no rumours or anything linking him to us.

I think Kvaratskhelia is a top bloke and I want Yamal on the right. Get it done Robins.

I can assure you he isn't over 2 million

What do people want ffs? He's younger than Godden, he's fast, he offers us a different set of skills to Simms etc

Chasing a game 1 down. Who would you bring on, Asante or Godden? If anyone says Godden I suggest you write your football knowledge on a stamp

We’re taking a top 6 team’s first choice striker and making him a rotation piece as a player with a different skill set to what we currently have and people aren’t happy?

Bonkers.

Really?

I have trouble believing West Brom would sell what has been their first choice striker to a promotion rival for less than £2m.

Yeah Godden is done for us, that's not a high bar. He looked finished in all his appearances towards the end of the season.

Because he's been first choice striker for a top 6 club. Why would they sell him to us for <£2m?

Why?

He will undoubtedly cost millions and Simms is both younger and better.

I would much rather us sign either another younger prospect to back Simms up or an experienced striker to mentor him.
I'd just rather see a hungry player who has some experience (and goals) at this level and can actually compete and push Simms for the shirt. That didn't happen last season and as a result we had no choice to persist with Simms even when it was obvious to a blind man that he needed resting. (2 goals in his first 25 games for example)
Imagine if we'd had an alternative during that time!
I think BTA is an ideal signing (if it happens)

If we are serious about challenging this season we haven't time to develop another young kid.

Simms scored 1goal in 12 games for Everton

And 2 in his first 25 games for us.
So what's your point?

Why can't the young kid we develop be Obikwu? He did well for Grimsby on loan and has scope for further improvement
