Funny how we say Brandon speedway. I thought it was Coventry Speedway?

Absolutely no chance as far as I can see.

Took two years to get PP for a small extension (garage conversion and new garage) on the side of my house when I lived in Binley Woods. When I lived in Stretton On Dunsmore it took several months for a decision on a sloping roof on my porch. Change is not accepted very often round there!

As stated by others the roads are bad enough when the Bees are at home. Times that by 5/6 for a League one game. As big as the car park is it still wouldn't be adequate. I've heard rumblings of a possible link road to the 46. Can't see that as there are several dozen listed trees in the way. Also judging by the last effort to build a road nearby it's not the best idea. RBC majorly messed up the RWRR. Came in at double it's budget and years late.

Where you went wrong with the PP though is you failed to include tiered seeting, had you done this they would have approved it straight away.

At least the Gillingham and Port Vale players wouldn't be bringing their Pentaxes. A perfect demotivator!

Why dont we buy ALL the houses built on the old Highfield Road ground - flatten them - and build a Football Stadium!

I'm not disagreeing. I used to go in the 70s and 80s myself - big Gary Gug fan me - I'm just saying the team has never been in Coventry.

There was Speedway racing at Lythalls Lane but it was way back when, from 1928-1936. The stadium then converted to greyhound racing in 1937 and remained as such until 1963 when it closed. Some time after that it was demolished and built on.

I think Speedway started at Brandon in 1930 but i'd need to check that. There also used to be Speedway at Stoneleigh on the site of what is now Stoneleigh Park/National Agricultural Centre.

Fair enough, didn't know that, but for 80 years it's not been in the city.

I would like to point out that I don't personally remember the meets, my old dear was a massive bees fan and she told me about it

here's a link to the filmof the final days before it closed in 1964
http://www.macearchive.org/Archive/...acing-stadium-to-be-sold/MediaEntry/7402.html

On the film you can see the gas holders that were knocked down to build the Ricoh.
At the start of the clip you see the entrance.this pic shows it how it is now.

When I was a Lad Torch, and you could get the best seats at the"Pictures" for a shilling, they were Known as the "Brandon Bees"

Yeah, I know, I used to go to. They were "known" as the Brandon Bees because they weren't in Coventry. However, officially they were Coventry, weren't they? They are Coventry's speedway team, not Brandon's.

It was an odd situation, known to everyone and referred to almost exclusively as the Brandon Bee's but the league officially referred to them as Coventry and published fixtures and league tables in that name.

Site has been for sale for a while now. Keyword there though is potential.

Anyone buying the site would expect ferious objections from locals, the current owner wants rid of it because he cannot develope Brandon in its current form from what I'm aware
