Sorry yes, my mistake. He took the leasehold for the land they're on. It's more like Wasps saving CCFC!

The freeholder is CCC
Millerchip bought the Headlease from a property development company that was going bust. ( so much for covenants safeguarding the Rugby Club )
There is then an underlease to CRL ( CRFC ) for teh pitch and existing stands etc

Leader's statement on joint stadium proposals
Published Monday, 23 May 2016
The leader of Coventry City Council has moved to reassure local people and sports fans following recent coverage about Coventry rugby club's idea to create a shared stadium with CCFC.

The ownership and lease position at the Butts is complicated. The Council own the freehold of the site. The lease of the whole of the Butts site is held by a company Coventry Rugby Properties LLP, controlled by Chris Millerchip. This lease permits the ground to be used as a Rugby Football Club and Pitch and for other 'leisure and sporting activities'. It is a requirement of this lease that Coventry Rugby Club have a lease of the pitch and the east stand for a peppercorn. The Coventry Rugby Club lease is controlled by Jon Sharp and the directors of the Rugby Club, is not for the whole of the site, is restricted to use for a Rugby Football Club only and is at a peppercorn. This lease was put in place to protect the Rugby Club when it came out of liquidation in 2010.

Jon Sharp has been in negotiation to acquire the Chris Millerchip lease. The Council cannot unreasonably refuse consent to this transfer if the parties agree terms. He has also asked the Council to vary the lease between the Rugby Club and the Millerchip lease which requires the Council's approval.

Coventry Rugby Club do not presently control the whole site. They shared their plan to develop a joint stadium with the Council in April 2016. They were informed that because the development of a joint stadium was of public interest and that a request to change the leases that that would vary the protection for the Rugby Club, these were issues that would require formal consideration by the Council and further information was requested to enable a report to be prepared.

Councillor George Duggins, Leader of Coventry City Council, said: "I want to clear up any confusion about the proposal to develop a joint stadium for rugby and football. I want to be really clear that the council will not put any obstacles in the way of this happening. Anything that requires our involvement including variations to the leases will be considered in the usual way - openly and transparently by members.

"But just to be clear the last contact we had with the rugby club about this proposal requested further information and this hasn't been received.

"The development of a larger stadium would require planning permission and we have not received an application. But at the point that we do, this will be treated like any other application including looking at all of the associated issues like parking, traffic and the impact on neighbours.”

I know thats an old article but makes me sick reading that, particularly this bit

"I want to clear up any confusion about the proposal to develop a joint stadium for rugby and football. I want to be really clear that the council will not put any obstacles in the way of this happening.

Then it turns out that they tried to stop football being played at the BPA, disgusting really its not even spin its just outright lying.

Lie?

The attempts to add the clause had been made and also proven to not be achievable prior to this interview, so how does it follow that Duggins was lying at the point of making the statement?

We will stop when he stops getting any credibility on here for adding anything of value.

He launched a coventry sports foundation the same time as wasps arrived in coventry.

Yet he says something about sisu not joining in talks and that's it for you - he's a good guy.

Don't know much about the guy and wondering how he can say all parties apart from SUSU were up for reconciliation talks.
What talks, when, where, what did everyone actually say and how were they invited and by who

just to correct something

Coventry Sports Foundation was started in 1988 and was operating sites well before Wasps ever got here

What Millerchip has backed is this CSF "Engage" campaign promoting rugby and the idea of a City of Rugby

Did anybody think csf had just been setup? They have run the higgs centre way before wasps? Also at7 and excel I think

They also aren't shy to screw people over

Just correcting the post by Grendel earlier NIck and the contents of the link he posted. The article says the following

"The Wasps’ arrival coincides with the launch of the Coventry Sports Foundation, founded on the philanthropy of the American lawyer and former Coventry player Chris Millerchip,"

To be completely honest
I hadn't really heard of it apart from on here.
I got the impression it was Millerchips idea and he was prepared to shaft whoever as long as this engage and CSF malarkey all got promoted.

As in how they were approached and by who and why they were the only party not prepared to engage in peace talks?

Hasn't CA stated the reasons? That the transfer of the lease has nothing to do with ccfc. Pretty much how talks between wasps and ccfc have nothing to do with millerchip.

If we are to believe that you are to believe that CCFC are getting shafted by every other man and their dog and someone offers the opportunity for talks that fir whatever reason might help alieviate the situation and may help with the future of the club.
I certainly fail to see how engaging in such talks could do any harm. So in our situation you would automatically assume the club would give it a go.
Then we are been told everybody was on board apart from the club??
Great, why?

So we believe everything CA says then and just not anything Wasps say?

Love the way we cherry pick which statements we want to believe.

CA may well be telling the truth, but seemingly all the other hated parties, CCC, Wasps, Higgs, CSF, Millerchip etc. Aren't.

Should take everything with pinch of salt to my mind.

It's the same as people constantly berating Cov Telegraph here, but then are happy to reference info from the site if it fits in with their position.

Also, taking into account your last post I feel it only customary to call you a Wasps Lover

Not well no, but I have a relative who does and has worked for him. As I said he is a decent bloke and has no reason to exaggerate a tale and communication with ccfc hasn't been easy.
