You need to ask a proper professional coach about this. You would think that enough people are paid enough money to think about these things for it not to be a coincidence that everyone does it one way. But the possibility that you’ve single-handedly uncovered a flaw in professional football is a tantalising one.

The way I see it the ball is nearly always cleared even if not perfectly and if it falls in a dangerous area it is rushed by 2 or 3 players for the block or hoof out. Haji was good with his clearance headers last night, did quite a few.

At times tonight we packed as many as 10 players into our 6 yard box, conceding a goal in there from a corner anyway.

I appreciate I’m the ultimate broken record on this, but can someone explain what the thinking is here? Rushworth was prevented from coming for the ball because he was swamped and we looked very uncomfortable defending the set pieces. Few times we won the ball but had no out and it came straight back in.

Perhaps stop giving away so many corners aswell. 13 in total last night, at least 4 that i can remember were not necessary.

The game is always in flux. Until recently Pepball was statistically the right way to play, until it stopped working and teams are moving to a counter attack style again. And eventually that won't work either and teams will have to adapt again. if that wasn't the case we wouldn't have all these different formations and player positions coming into the game - we'd all be playing 4-4-2 cos that would be the best way to play.

Watching PL highlights it definitely seems to me that the top teams are finding ways around swamping the box with defenders and teams are conceding more from this. I think over time it will go back to having at one or two players on the halfway.

Problem also was that Mee got that near post flick on for their goal , but we went to sleep & it nearly happened again .
All teams now know how quick Milan & Tats are , so surely those 2 out , each on the half way line , would pull a minimum of 4 back & who knows , a goal from that positioning would change the opposition numbers in our box …..?

Torp lost his man for the goal.
