Devastating news!

Was only discussing how well he looked at 69 with some American friends on Friday.

One of my few true 'Heroes'

'Life on Mars' should echo around every lounge today.

Rest in peace David Jones

Sad day. Hugely influential, and always came across a decent human being.

Devastated when i heard this news, I missed alot of his era (born 1980) but he was the type of artist that had me hooked regardless. Never had the pleasure of seeing him live but have burnt out most of my CD's listening to him.

I think they should do a tribute concert ala Mercury as his music has touched many artists for many a year and many more to come.

RIP Bowie.

This is the first time I have actually cried and literally been in tears over an artist since John Lennon died.

Think I will be in stunned silence over this news for days to come.

As Eddie Izzard has said this morning, every radio station across the globe should dedicate their entire programming to the songs of David Bowie for the day.

He WAS that important.

Same here Otis. I couldn't believe the news this morning. I've been trance-like all day.

Now that Bowie has gone he has to be the last great music legend to pass away isn't he ? Elvis,Lennon, and now Bowie. Probably Dylan but he hasn't done a lot for years has he ?

Elton John?

Can't say I'm at all a fan, but he could be considered a legend for sure.

Forgot about him probably he is a legend too. Can't stand her but Madonna is looked on as a pop icon isn't she ? But then again legend and icon are words used freely these days, but Bowie was a mixture of the two !

When Bruce Forsyth pops his clogs he'll probably be described as being right up there with Bowie once the media frenzy begins.

Legend is thrown around too freely sometimes, same as 'comedy great,' but Bowie truly fit the bill.

Rod Stewart and Elton John will probably get similar legend status when they go. Elton John is obviously more talented than Stewart for all the stuff he has written, but I still don't think he is anywhere close to being as important as David Bowie at all.

Well Jagger anyway, yes and of course McCartney. The outpouring will be just as strong I would have thought when he goes.

You've still got half the Beatles and most of the Stones, Dylan's kicking about and of course S Club reunited.

Talking about this today and all said Bowie is the last iconic pop/rock star to pass away.Otis mentioned Elton John but as good as he is/was I don't see him anywhere near Bowie in my opinion.Been said a few times in the past 24 hours on radio and T.V. by music experts, that there's been four great music legends : Elvis,Lennon,Sinatra, and now Bowie.Who can argue with that ?

Don't bring the French into this ! McCartney is like Dylan all his best stuff is long gone don't you reckon ? And to me Lennon was the Beatles.

I get the Impression there is a trend developing of such Artists producing material or bringing such material together which has a deepness, slightly maudlin theme as the final approach comes into sight.
I'm thinking Johnny Cash, McCartney, Tom Jones and Bowie specifically.

That Cash track called HURT is awesome and he recorded that near to his death,so you may have a point there ? Is Tom Jones on his way out then ?
