So the Coventry City board have decided to get rid of yet another manager and the search begins to find their tenth successor in as many years.
The Coventry Observer's sports reporter Steve Carpenter has short-listed five realistic replacements, all of which could be tempted to take on the role of guiding the Sky Blues up the Championship table.
1. Roberto Di Matteo
The former Chelsea midfielder turned MK Dons into a promotion force in League One before guiding West Brom out of the Championship and into the Premier League, where many would say he was cruelly sacked despite the club seemingly holding their own in the top flight.
Coventry wouldn't have to worry about compensation fees because he is a free agent and he could be tempted to at least enter talks with the club considering the fact that he lives in Leamington Spa, which is a five minute drive form the club's training ground.
One other factor is that Di Matteo could still see the potential of turning Coventry back into a top flight club after playing against the Sky Blues for five years whilst playing for Chelsea.
2. Andy Thorn
Currently in charge of first-team affairs alongside coach Steve Harrison and the duo almost got of to a perfect start on Tuesday night as the Sky Blues led with 15 minutes remaining, but a late Ray Rodriguez ensured they had to settle for a point.
Thorn wouldn't be seen as the right candidate to many Coventry fans given his lack of managerial experience, but many supporter who made the trip to Turf Moor would want him as Boothroyd's permanent successor if the club continue to play in the same style as they did against Burnley.
3. Lee Clark
The former Newcastle and Sunderland midfielder has transformed Huddersfield Town from a mid-table side into automatic promotion contenders in the space of two years.
Clarke wouldn't be an obvious choice for many supporters, but his work at Huddersfield speaks for itself. The Sky Blues would have pay compensation because he still has at least one year left on his current contract, but it could prove to be money well spent.
4. Steve McClaren
The former England manager will still want to prove a point in English football despite winning the Dutch league with FC Twente in his first full season in charge.
A less than successful stint at German outfit Wolfsburg, which ended with him getting the sack in February, has slightly damaged his current credentials but he has admitted in the past that he would consider managing a club in the Championship.

The former Coventry player and manager built a great relationship with the supporters during his two spells with the club and has gone on to gain more managerial experience since his brief spell as manager in 2002.
He managed Swedish club GAIS for a couple of years before signing for Malmo FF and achieved success with the club when he won the league title in 2010. He could be tempted back to finish the job he started but would need a good number two by his side.

There are several former players that already been liked to the role. Dion Dublin is one name that has been mentioned but his work as a pundit could take priority, Richard Shaw is looking for his first break but it could be too big of a step and Lee Carsley may want to play on for another season.
Darren Huckerby is happily settled in Norwich despite currently training for his coaching badges but one former player that could be interested in the role is Dennis Wise.
He had a successful spell with the Sky Blues for under Micky Adams back in 2006 and close friend Gus Poyet revealed at a talk in Coventry back in 2009 that he wouldn't be surprised to see Wise as manager of Coventry one day.
