Aidy Boothroyd has admitted he is powerless to stop Keiren Westwood and Aron Gunnarsson leaving Coventry.
The pair are out of contract in the summer and as a result are now free to talk to other clubs.
Both players are thought to be attracting interest, with Westwood linked with a move to Premier League side Wigan Athletic.
Sky Blues boss Boothroyd is hoping he can persuade both men to stay at the Ricoh Arena but seems resigned to the possibility of two key players leaving the club.
"Yes, they can talk to anybody they want," Boothroyd told the Coventry Telegraph.
"They don't have to tell me about it and, to be perfectly honest, I won't ask.
"They will do what they need to do and if offers come in they will have a decision to make.
"But we'll continue to talk to Westy and Aron because we want to keep them. They are both terrific players and at this point in time I think this is the best place for them to be, but what will be will be."

He's not the only one fearing it! I hope he has a plan for replacing them should it be needed, because i'd consider Westwood and Gunnarson 2 of our key players, and to lose them both would be an enormous blow. With King only on a one-year deal too, it's a possibility he could be off before too long as well. We could have a nervy old time this summer.

I'm really worried we're going to lose gunnar as well as westy now (considered him as leaving about 2 months ago). With King I think we have the option of a second year so we won't quite lose him if we don't want to I think.

Two of my fave players, so I don't want to see either go! I'm resigned to the fact that Westwood will be going, but I will not resign myself to the fact that Gunnar may go! We ALWAYS sell our best players & people wonder why we make no progression!
And with King, I would love to see him sign another deal!

Agreed that it would be a huge blow as they are fantastic players and I personally feel that they would benefit another season with us. I don't see any signs of looking at adequate replacements for them either. Also we rarely see the reward from selling our best players e.g Dann and Fox. Fingers crossed that they stay!

Kirkland injured again tonight, may be blessing and force Wigan to pay now for Westy. Least we would get something!!

Aye, what's would be even worse than losing both Westwood and Gunnerson would be losing them both for free. Absolutely no hope that we could bring in 2 adequate replacements on frees. That'd be a pretty major step backwards really. Definitely worrying.
