The worrying thing for Bolton is that they only managed to start the season due to a short term loan from the FL to cover them while the takeover was completed.
Now said takeover looks to of fallen through, where are they going to get the funds from to continue, and how are they going to get players for a whole season?

It was a predictably poor opening weekend for Bolton, who fielded very few experienced players at Adams’ Park last Saturday. The club is in disarray and an end to their woes doesn’t appear to be forthcoming. In contrast, Coventry, who’ve also had more than their fair share of off-field problems over the last few years, made a winning start to the new campaign.

Despite both the current state of the club and the fact that opening day brought about the taste of defeat, there were two very clear positives for Bolton last Saturday. Even during such a tough period, the support shown by Trotters’ fans, who were rightly complimented by the hosts, was fantastic, while the inexperienced players involved, of which there was no shortage, showed both heart and desire, as they fought for what was essentially a lost cause.

In footballing terms, there was little for Phil Parkinson, who fielded just three fully established pros at Adams Park, to get excited about last weekend. His side were outplayed in all areas, as they registered just two shots, neither of which hit the target, and conceded no less than 25, ten of which tested keeper Remi Mathews, who looks set for a busy campaign between the sticks. Overall, there could be no complaints about Wycombe’s 2-0 win, as there was a clear gap in quality between the pair.

Unlike the Trotters, it was a pleasing first day for Coventry, who beat Southend by a goal to nil at their temporary home of St. Andrews. It wasn’t spectacular, though the Sky Blues gave off an air of solidity, as they fought hard for their opening-day victory. They gave little away, conceding just five shots, only one of which hit the target. They also surrendered just 0.61 expected goals for.

Going forward, Coventry, who this week did some seemingly shrewd business by bringing in striker Matt Godden from Peterborough, looked a little tame, as they created just 0.29 expected goals more than the Shrimpers, though they’ve undoubtedly got more up their sleeve in that department, so the fact that they looked solid was the main thing.

From a betting point of view, this is one of the less appealing games, though those looking for a bet can try ‘Coventry to Win & Under 3.5 Goals’. Bolton are going to struggle on a regular basis this season; they lack the overall quality and depth to compete with sides such as Coventry, though for all their problems, they did resist Wycombe for long periods last weekend. Add in the fact that Coventry weren’t overly powerful going forward, and backing the visitors to win without running riot, much as they did a week ago, appears to be the best option.

Going back to the ills of the PL. Stop the loan system.

Premier League and Championship teams are playing god, with who they loan to whom.

Stop them buying up all the players. If you sign for Chelsea, there is a chance you will never play in a first team match.

Guess it’s a question of what outcome do you want? A strong top league and European/International performance, or a health game at all levels from grass roots up?

Alan Nixon reporting that all their senior players are refusing to play tomorrow as things stand and Bolton are desperately trying to get them to. Honestly, given the circumstances our goal for this game should be to be top of the league by the end of it.

We got three good players out of it last year. Loanees are part of the mix now - 2 or 3 each season.
Plenty of permanent players stay little longer - like JCH
If they are rubbish you are not stuck with them
The most likely way to find wingers
A player like Bright can work his way up the hierarchy - L1, Champ, Prem
Prem Clubs become a source of talent they otherwise could not get access to Armstrong and others now plying their trade in the Championship.
On a cost to quality ratio, usually pretty good
I could go on....

Fucking hell I bet you are fun at parties.

I feel sorry for the Bolton fans but let's face it they are where they are due to mismanagement of the football club. Us selling 2000+ tickets in a day isn't short of the truth; we are providing them with a payday with very short notice

My mate is staying over in the hotel tonight at Bolton. The pitch looks spot on, I'd have thought it might be a bit shit

Just because we have done well with some of them, Henderson, Armstrong, Murphy etc, it doesn't mean that the loan system is good for the game.

Look at the league in February. Clubs that have been struggling bring in two or three on loan and transform their season. Good for them, but it's to the detriment of other clubs.

OK, we get to see emerging talent, but again to the detriment of our own developing youngsters.

As to your " the most likely way to find wingers", a strange comment that I cannot understand. Surely that could just as easily be the best way to find goalkeepers/ strikers/ et al.

Cost to quality for us, I agree, but again at a detriment to the game as a whole. It distorts things, and allows the Premier League teams to stockpile talent. If there was not a loan system, they would have to play at the level to which they were suited.

I can sort of see the wingers thing. They tend to be best early in their career and quite raw so clubs snap up anyone showing a bit of talent in case they become Ronaldo. Other positions take a bit longer to get going and rely more on experience than youthful confidence and energy.

The reason isn't unknown it's years of watching Coventry City knowing full well what we're capable of.

Banter by stooping to the level of Sunderland and Shef Utd fans by celebrating the demise of a historic football club.
Given our current issues Id be embarrassed to hear that

Suppose we would have agree to disagree.

If fans chanted that to us it would make me laugh.

Laughing to yourself isn't cool. If you genuinely would laugh at that I despair of you and others who join in.

Are you actually trying to justify yourself? You feel sorry for them by mocking their situation. Stunning logic there

Anyway back to the football...

I think everyone would be mightily disappointed if we didn't get three points today. However this is Coventry City...

Bolton are 7/1 to win!

Yeah there is a big expectancy for us to win, even from the Bolton camp. I hope we play with no mercy or pity.

But this is Coventry City. We all know better than the probabilities.
