Yes as I just said? I never said the academy players or the U23s refused to play. I’m not really sure what your point is?

Well I started off by saying Bolton cancelled their friendly to Chester because they didn’t have enough first team players to play. You told me I was wrong. Yet you just said yourself that the first team players have refused to play due to not being paid. Thus meaning they’ve had to cancel the friendly due to not having enough first team players to play the game

Didn’t they only have something like 7 turn up for pre season. Unsure if that was them or bury

Applying Gordon Strachan’s logic...if 9 men are harder to play against than 11....7 will be fucking impossible m8.

reading their forum, their players are on strike, they cant sign any new ones, and end of admin is 4-6 weeks away
they do not seem hopeful of starting the season

And they still have not had the issue of not playing all of their games last season dealt with - which could land a further points deduction

They will have to play any player signed that could include youngsters as young as 16, perhaps there’s the possibility of loans or unemployed players if that’s allowed, they are in a sorry state at the minute.

And we think we have problems. Got to feel for the fans. No club should have go through that. Absolutely disgraceful.

It’s fans of clubs such as Newcastle Utd and Manchester Red that need a thump in the mouth and a reality check.

Wanderers players go on strike amid takeover - forcing match to be postponed

Doesn't look good for them.

United I can 100% agree with, Newcastle however no chance. Best fans in the country in my opinion, in terms of loyal support. Sell out every away end no matter where or what night despite being 100s of miles away and starved of any real success. Averaged 51,000+ in the championship. Ashley’s fully taking the piss, and their fans have every right to moan

Might be being a bit pedantic but there’s a difference between not having enough players for a friendly to go ahead and the club’s players refusing to play. Surely even if Bolton had a full squad they still would’ve refused as the point is, they haven’t been paid. The amount of players they have or don’t have is irrelevant as it’s the reason the friendly has been cancelled that is significant. Simply saying they don’t have enough players in itself is incorrect. No statement that has come out has specified that as the reason either so not sure why you’re still trying to argue your point?

Forgive me, but isn’t Ashley’s problem he won’t spend his own money, runs Newcastle at a profit and keeps them in the premier league?

He doesn’t keep them in the Premier League though? Under his tenure they’ve been relegated twice in the last seven years. Prior to that they were relegated 4 times in 117 years. He’s turned them into a yo-yo club.

But he’s instantly returned them both times.

He runs them as a business, it seems to me that it’s another case of fans expecting someone to plow in millions and if they don’t win fuck off...

Newcastle fans need a reality check - Bolton and Bury are happening yet a person they call a fat bastard is the worst owner ever.

Yes. For their fans to complain that they have the worst owner in football, I stand by my first comment. They need a grip on reality.

I agree they definitely need a reality check. They think they are far better and bigger than they actually are. Their support is incredible, there’s no doubting that, but in my opinion support size doesn’t necessarily solely dictate size of club anymore. Size of club in my opinion is now dictated by a culmination of factors - fan size included obviously but it’s not the sole reason anymore. In fact I’d go as far to say that’s a very outdated POV these days. Other factors have come into play as the game has evolved. Otherwise by that logic the likes of Newcastle would be considered as a bigger club than let’s say Spurs before they moved into their new stadium.

The issue is though when you see the likes of West Ham spending £40M on players, Bournemouth last season spending £30M, and giving their players £100K per year contracts this season I think they do have a right to be annoyed. Under his tenure they’ve shifted from being considered as a top half/top 6 contender to a relegation candidate/Yo-Yo club. Any fan would be frustrated at that so I do sympathise as what do they have to look forward to? The club is being starved of progression under Ashley. Fans look forward to the new season because they have a belief that it could be better than the one before. Realistically Newcastle fans don’t have that because Ashley refuses to spend. It’s not about chucking money at the situation either as it’s well known that Newcastle have money in the bank but Ashley refuses to spend - similar to Arsenal. There’s a huge difference to being money-savvy and being tight.

Thing is If West Ham get it wrong, they’re in the shit. The criticism then moves to “why were you spending money you don’t have”

I get Newcastle have money in the bank, but that clearly keeps them solvent.

I’m sorry but them calling him the worst owner is insulting. Frustration maybe

They haven’t sold their ground, they’re in a good condition, just having 50k fans doesn’t entitle you to challenge - and some of the stuff levelled at Ashley is disgusting. Why would he invest with all the shit he gets?

Arsenal on the other hand also piss me off. Their problem is though - they will spend the money but they try not too

For Arsenal I still remember Max Branning from Eastenders on Soccer AM kicking off that they hadn't won anything. They said "you have won the FA cup" and he just brushed it away as if it was meaningless.

West Ham used to be the same and refuse to spend but now a combination of pressure being applied to Gold and Sullivan, along with their stadium move has forced them to put their hands in their pockets. But yeah I agree it certainly could land them in deep water down the line. Which could qualify Gold and Sullivan as bad owners as they’re potentially gambling the club’s future for short term gain. It’s a double edged sword really being a football club owner.

You could also spin that comment around and argue what’s the point if owning a football club if he doesn’t invest. Yes it’s not right some of the abuse he gets but at the same time if an owner refuses to invest they’re going to get stick. He doesn’t help himself either - it’s like when he bought House of Fraser for £90M and he spent barely anything in the summer transfer window last summer. It's been well reported that he does give the impression he cares very little for the club, or the city for that matter and instead uses Newcastle United as a marketing tool for his own commercial gain.

Spending time writing a public statement to the players comes off as petty when the club is going to the wall.

I sort of see both sides of the coin with Newcastle. Firstly the fans chat some shit about what they deserve and having shit owners shows a level of entitlement beyond belief. They couldn’t comprehend what we or other clubs have been through and it stinks. The club is profitable and insulated against the bubble bursting. On the other hand the owners mess about with a brilliant manager and let him walk replacing him with someone treading water a league below. Why would you want to keep buying season tickets when the only ambition is to win the bare minimum of games. Ashley seems to have taken the abuse and gone “fuck you then, I’ll make the club worse before I sell”

To be fair I agree regarding Arsenal and Newcastle... the finance side of thing on our end is alright - however I don’t advise not owning your stadium

I’ve been telling villa fans that at work, they’ve just sold villa park... I just get told it’s fine- nothing to worry about
