That's an important point, based on a terrible performance. First half we didn't show up. Second half we lacked quality when it was needed.

Lucky to come away with a point.

He can head a ball and that is it. Seems utterly terrified with the ball at his feet. Makes one guaranteed clanger every game. A terrible waste of £2m.

He's fucking shit ain't he

Honestly tho Bobby, Kitch, Joel and Binks is Rotherham as fuck

We are completely shit because they are our centre backs. We are completely shit because Torp and Eccles haven't got any quality.

think back : Mcnally, Fadz, Doyle, Sheaf, Hamer and O'Hare

Now : Thomas, Joel, Torp, Eccles and Sheaf.

There is no comparison.

One is pure quality and the other is absolutely fucking shit.

Thought he was good last year. Playing out from the back, the opposition always leave him as the spare man, as he has been identified as the week link. His passing forward this season has been poor. Still young.

People got a bit excited about him because he’s got a gob on him and seems ‘no-nonsense’. Think people thought he was going to replace Fadz.

Thing is, I don’t think we need an entire new squad as some have suggested. Just 2-3 leaders in key positions that will give these younger players the breathing space to develop.

His passing accuracy is consistently good. How often does he miss a good, safe chance to pass forward?

If you want to see more, accurate forward passes from defence look at the availability of the midfielders to receive a pass in space. Eccles, Tats, Sheaf hide in possession. Rudi and Torp aren’t much better. They are all +/- capable - it must be a confidence/bravery issue.

Latis not a centre half so I’ll let him off, he’s being asked to do a job he can’t, but Thomas how he’s made it to championship level, scares the hell out of me, you watch him and think well he’s slow so he must be able to read the game or can bring the ball out or be brilliant in the air, he doesn’t do any of that, maybe sums up our quality when he starts every week, how bad must Lampard think kitching and binks are

Shocking footballer, don’t want to see him starting for us again, makes at least 5 mistakes a game and can’t make a 5 yard pass

He was really poor today but tbf he knew it and came over and apologised after the match. Doesn't make everything OK but I'm glad he himself knew that wasn't up to standard.

his "challenge" for their goal was shocking. no need to make it, tbh. just run the guy into the corner and force him to turn back while we get into shape.
he played like he was out on the piss last night.

Good question ? remember when you played for a kids team that had that utility player, the one who’d play anywhere when you were really short, but was mostly a sub, I’d say that’s him, good to have around the squad but not your first choice centre half

At a push he is a very average right sided player in a back three, but he is the slowest thinking player I have seen for years

Correct. On average Thomas makes 69 passes per game at a pass accuracy of 84%, meaning he gives the ball away 11 times/game on average. His passing accuracy is higher than the team’s average. Thomas and Binks make the most passes, both above average accuracy, but they also give the ball away more than those less involved.

I believe that the lack of available options/bravery from midfield to receive the ball is a major issue this season.

Any club that plays out from the back, their goalkeeper and centre backs will have the most amount of touches and passes.

Bobby Thomas could have 95% pass accuracy, but of that 5% if 1 pass is almost an assist to the opposition forward to score, then the 95% means fuck all.

Point being he isn't very good at his job nor is the 3 other centre backs we have.

We spent huge money and had a major squad overhaul, you can't get everything spot on, unfortunately where have gone massively wrong is with every one of our cente backs.

If we can get 5 million quid for the 4 of them then that's a major success.

We need to rebuild the centre backs 2 loan signings and 2 centre backs that are at the required level, 2 centre backs that won't ship 4 goals against Pompey, 2 centre backs that wouldn't have conceded that goal today against Cardiff, 70 yards away from our own goal and it ends up in the back or the net.

Football is very simple, the teams up the top are up there because they have quality all over the park.

We have Mason Clarke, Wright, Simms and Sakamoto as our forwards, this is a top 8 quality forward line.

Our midfield is dross, Torp and Eccles will always be playing in the Championship, you can see the levels when you go back and watch how Hamer stood out for us.

Our defence is even worse than our midfield and it shows.

If we had a top box to box centre mid, we'd still be leaving goals. We need to rebuild the centre back position first and go from there.

Just for a little bit of perspective, whilst it was a poor goal to concede, we've let one goal in three games. Midfield is a bigger issue imo. Nothing wrong with those either individually, but they don't work as a set and need some aggression in there to stop the easy space when teams break on us.

Last 15 games we have conceded 21 goals mate, of those 15 games games we have conceded 2 or more goals in 8 games.

there's your perspective mate.

defence is absolutely shambolic and the quicker the 4 centre backs are gone the better.

We genuinely need 2 new centre backs at this level, Binks, Kitch, Thomas are not at this level, simple as that.

I rate Dovin, even when he got skinned when he came running out after our defence had fucked it, he put the player off and ultimately saved us.

Simms just needs minutes, simple as that. He boy ain't gonna press for 90 minutes, not happening, he's 6ft2. We play to his strengths and he will be a problem.

Gutted QPR got Ronnie Edwards. While unproven at this level I’d have liked to see him here

Bit like people booing thomas today - not going to help at all is it.

thomas will be better with a leader/organiser for me.

to say never want to see him play again - go wobble your head.

Wouldn’t say I never want to see him play again but he’s Not good enough, we took a gamble on signing a league one defender hoping he’d be able to step up to this level and hasn‘t ,same as kitching, and Collins, didn’t help yesterday when in the first 3 mins he put a simple 10 yard pass out for a throw in,, we need 2 new centre halves who are good enough

He's a young centre back playing in an unsettled team that hasn't met the expectations put on it, those expectations mostly set out by its clueless owner. He needs some experience next to him.

The idea that he can be disposed of and another young player signed to magically make it all OK is the same delusional thinking that's got us to where we are today.

He was awful yesterday, but wasn’t helped by the insane decision to keep arseing around at the back in torrid conditions. Cardiff moved the ball around with ease first half by comparison and generally with much fewer short passes.

We don’t have the players to execute this way of playing at the best of times. With players as weak and brittle as these it’s madness.

Last season I would say he had far more decent performances than poor ones. This year has tilted the other way. Suggests to me is that he does have the ability.
If the team were playing well and he wasn't then it would make sense to single him out. However, I don't think I have ever watched so many matches where the majority of the team are playing poorly. I think the whole-team dynamics is impacting individual performances rather than individual abilities.

I think Thomas and Binks will both be fine as long as we get some experience in alongside them. Both clearly have ability but even more clearly are lacking confidence at the moment.
