Olympic channel 1 - I thought about 8 of them set off at the same time and raced round, not this time trial stuff. Anybody shed any light on it.

Different types of events like in the track cycling. So there's time trials, fastest time wins, and group events there are several riders that race together in a heats and then finals. The time trials go towards the seeding and order for the group event

This is to determine what gates they get in the actual races. The quicker they are, the better the draw they get.

The impression I got from watching it at the Beijing olympics is that it's an atrocious sport. Seemed to reward the ones that go slower and stay out of trouble when the group in front crashes. The number of races that were won by people that were in last place for 80% of the race only for a massive crash to hand them the win was ridiculous.

Was entertaining mind!

Anyone watching it now? Think there's been 4 races so far and there's been a crash in 3 of them, including one that took 7 of the 8 riders out.

Really entertaining but there's far too many crashes, far too much of a lottery element for a 'proper' sport.

I find the same logic can be applied to mountains.
