So, the doctor has ordered me to take readings daily, and choose best of three.

This seems slightly odd to me though. I start of wa-ay over what it should be, but if I sit there and go zen, I get it close to (and today, for the first time in about three years, under!) what it should be.

But surely this is artificial? Most of my day is anything but zen - posting here's the relaxing part!

So aren't they just contriving a result for data rather than one for effective treatment?

(And yes never fear, I'm not going to be taking SBT's medical expertise as gospel, I appreciate we're a bunch of finance and medical experts really )

I'm hoping it's 120/80, given I've just got it down to 112/80!

It's been normally around 150/90-95... which is nice(!)

My heart specialist advised me not to check every day, as it could become “obsessive” and then stressful if results aren’t where you want them, so self defeating.

Blood pressure can rise due to stress or exercise of course, but I guess your doc is looking to see if your lowest result is consistently too high?

It's been high for years They want to know if the current medication works or not, so every now and again I have to do a week's worth of readings, to then have a nice chat with the doctor who finds a different combination of drugs to try or, in the case of the last lot before this, a combination that didn't set my heart racing in the middle of the night, give me palpitations, and make me faint!

Ah well, it’s just trial & error then. Let’s hope there’s no more errors…

Don't forget geopolitics.

I hate to say it mate, but if posting here is the most relaxing part of your day... well, how should I put this...

Erm, basically, I wouldn't worry too much about paying your credit cards off in full each month.

The wife was told she had high blood pressure and needed to buy a machine. I gave it a go and got 180/110 and I was very much chilled when I did it. I tried again a few hours later after having lay on the bed for a couple of hours so I was as relaxed as possible and still got it to around 160/100. I've not dared go near it since. The readings it gave for the wife were similar to what she had got when at the doctors so maybe the machine is fairly accurate...

My doctor sent a survey to do on line. Take it twice a day one at 9am the other at 6pm. I know others who have had the same.

White coat syndrome, if I see a doctort my blood pressure goes up, its a real thing.
I ve done all the 3 readings a day, I ve worn a blood pressure machine which takes your blood pressure every 15/30 minutes
for twenty four hours.
Heart rate machine for 24 hours too.
My blood pressure is very volatile with wild swings both up and down.
Its been suggested that I take tablets but as it can drop as well as going up I do nt.
I tend just to ignore it nowadays altho I do know when its very high and just do a few breathing exercises.

Can it potentially give you headaches especially when you wake in the morning?

yes I get headaches but main thing for when mine is high is that I see sparkles, flecks in my eyes and I do get slightly dizzy.
I know its time to sit down and relax then lol.
I also get nosebleeds if the headaches are really bad.

While I was in hospital a week or so ago, they took my BP a couple of times daily. It was sky high, but they just made a note of it and went on to the next patient. They didn't seem too bothered.
I take daily medication for my hypertension and used to check my blood pressure almost daily, but can't be arsed these days. If I have a dizzy spell (double vision), I check both my blood sugars and my blood pressure, If they are normal (which they normally are) then I just plod on until my vision settles down - usually after about 10 minutes.

I had a cholesterol check a couple of years ago and it came back high so they asked me to do a blood pressure check daily - my wife has a machine - you will always give a higher level in a surgery - gave me 135 / 85 as a norm for me - (61 relatively fit ) I found that relaxing for a few mins I could get down to this as a resting pulse - it was higher if talking and higher if close to any activity - now on statins and my ch level has reduced to very low so i am happy - your bp will vary but you should try and see what your relaxed bp is

Are you going to see the doctor then mate....you probably should I reckon.

That said, I've recently discovered my dermatology referral from Feb. Should (fingers crossed, with a following wind) result in an actual appointment and biopsy in may 2023!.......so maybe it's better not to know.
