A really good piece on a player I have fond memories of and ultimately, feel sad for.

He sounds like a stand up guy, I thought he was a good keeper with us and it's a shame that bad injuries always seen to affect the good guys in football

I always rated Kirkland as a star in the making. Unfortunately injuries were his downfall. He was a top keeper for us. Hope he returns to the big time one day, (or comes back to Cov!)

I'm surprised this wasn't a more popular thread! Lloyd/Double H, I echo your thoughts! A real shame and almost a crime how his career panned out! But he's only 30 so hopefully he's got plenty of time left yet!

Funnily enough, i thought he was terribly overrated.

I rang my pal in Liverpool the day they signed him and told him they had just bought a fantastic keeper who would go on to be Liverpool and England's number 1 for years.

The accumulated injuries have obviously taken a terrible toll. But it also shows that although we weren't happy when he left, it was a great bit of business.

Think it all came to early for him, european football ,international scene they both came before he'd had a good season or two at pool,he was very young to get the England call, thought the same happened with Carson,i think Chris has lost his confidense big style ,the amount of times he's been on the end of heavy defeats in ,the last 3 years or so coupled with failed loan spells suggest he probably needs a bit of stiffeningof his problematic backbone ,for me ,a little overated ,much like Westwood ,when you check the goals agianst column .

Smashed into my mates sister in his car. Fucked her back right up, wouldn't admit responsibility, got his solicitors to drag it through loads of legal crap trying to get her to drop it.

When he finally realised she was taking it all the way to court he settled out of it so it wouldn't make the papers.

Bit of a wanker really.
