It is the extra man in midfield. Which is why one up top isnt always a defensive formation.

I don’t think many actually think 1 up top is defensive just that two suited us much better last season due to having our wingbacks pushed back the lone striker was isolated.

Said this a lot last year, but it still stands; we look so much better when we’re playing offensively and on the front foot.

Even “bomb squad” Allen is playing well.
