More bad news for Birmingham as Zaraté revealed to be coffee brand
RELEGATED BIRMINGHAM City were today dealt another blow after it was revealed that the good form of Argentinean striker, Mauro Zaraté, was is in fact a marketing ploy designed to boost the little-known Zaraté coffee company's profile outside of South America.
The medium strength hitman – a telenovela actor from Buenos Aires whose real name is Pepiño Trumpet – is currently on loan from a Qatari side believed to have been set up as a front to traffic branded footballers into the Premier League. The revelation may go some way to explaining a recent post-match interview given by Zaraté in which he described a two-goal performance as, "strong, full-bodied, and with a hint of nut".
"We are pretty sure that Zaraté is part of the same system that gave the Premier League Jay-Jay Okocha (promoting popular Nigerian towel Jay-Jay cloths) and Ibrahima Bakayoko (an Ivorian national dish a bit like a lamb stew) all those years ago,” said Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore. "This is the most audacious piece of advertising since Walkers duped the BBC into allowing a packet of Salt and Lineker to present Match of the Day."
Argentinean coffee-making has long struggled to make the same sort of impact on the global game as that of rivals Peru, Columbia and Brazil, where young children can be seen learning the barista skills on beaches and in favelas from a young age.
But Associacion Fundemantalidad Cafe (AFC) Zaraté, whose dazzling but temperamental coffee is known throughout Argentina as the "blend of God", believe a series of smooth, rich performances turned in by Zaraté for the Blues could be just the breakthrough they need.
However, team-mates have criticised Zaraté, claiming that he deserves a good roasting for his actions. Life-long tea drinker Sebastian Larsson was particularly incensed after his boot deal with PG Tips was cancelled due to the ongoing international furore.
