Didn’t think Dasilva played badly but his limitations were on show, few times they switched it high and he struggled, and also just got swamped sometimes on the left.

As good as he is on the ball in tight positions, you sometimes need him to pull wider to the touchline and stretch the play in attacking places, he's often too willing to come inside and almost gets in the way.

Do you think he’s told to do that?

If we are having a back 3/5 i'd rather the 3 we had last night than getting Lati involved. Suspect we will be a back 4 with Thomas and Kitching as first choice soon though.
Dasilva was decent enough last night, but Bidwell will be back in as soon as fully fit.

The ball that was pinged from their left to their right behind the acres of space that Dasilva left occurs time and time again.
Last night Dasilva got nowhere the winger who collected the ball almost on the touchline and drove into our box and got his short away which Dovin parried.
Shocking defending and it happens time after time from him.

Da Silva is very limited
unfortunately his physical attributes of being short and slow are too easy to bully
a bit like the Kelly Evans twins back in the day

Dasilva does get targeted a lot and that is a problem at this level.
Especially when we don't really cross cover our fullbacks.

It's absolutely bizarre that people just pretend like this doesn't happen to Bidwell too

And MVE on the other flank, it's not a Bidwell v Dasilva thing it's literally just what happens to full backs.

I honestly don’t know why we signed him in the first place and chased him so hard.

Basically he was all agreed the January before the summer he signed… whyyyyy

Or the idea it’s always because he’s out of position when every full back sits in the same area to push whoever is on the overlap wide but also able to come central if needed.

We’d been looking for a LB for years, basically since McCallum left. Clearly it’s a scouting blind spot.

Is it that much of a blind spot? Maatsen was decent, then Bidwell has proven to be a good signing.

The only real shocker has been Dasilva, which seemingly wasn't a scouting decision but rather a Viveash recommendation.

We've had more troubles at RB / RWB I'd say. We've had Dabo who just broke down in his first season in the Champ, Dacosta, Kane, BNC who ranged from average to how are you even a footballer.

If anything I think it's more than full backs and wing backs are difficult positions to recruit for. There's a lot of shit out there and very limited quality unless you pay premium.

Bidwell is an OK lower end championship fullback and never really held down the spot as his own. The others were loans.

I’m not on the “Dasilva is the worst footballer ever” train tbh.

Same on the opposite side though, with exception to MVE the best RB / RWB we've had since Dabo was a loan and he was exceptionally average.

It's not a LWB / LB problem in isolation. Decent wing backs / full backs are just hard to come by.

I don't think Dasilva is the worst footballer ever either, but he's very limited at this level and doesn't really have the attributes to be successful in the Championship by putting in stand out performances.

Yeah MvE was a revelation (see my post about him when he joined). Just don’t get the outrage at spending a couple of hundred thousand on a needed position and the angry mob demanding Ady Viveash pays for his crimes.

Don’t really get this about Bidwell.

he’s missed 6 games since joining with injury

in the remaining 137 games he’s been in the squad he’s started 94 which is 70%. Played 20 off the bench and not played 23 times.

I think you’ll be hard pressed to find many in this squad who play as much as him

And yet consistently a new LB is top of the recruitment list for both fans and managers. He’s an OK backup but he’s not good enough for where we want to be.

For some fans and Robins.

what evidence is there that Lampard wants a new LB to replace him, he’s given him a 2 year contract.

With him playing LB we’ve finished 6th, 9th and are on course for another top half finish.

Im sure we’ve been linked with LBs this window.

This is the Eccles and Allen defence and by your logic we don’t need any new players ever cos the existing ones got to 6th and 9th.

We’ve been linked to lots of players. I’d say the evidence of Bidwell signing a new 2 year contract weighs in favour of Lampard being happy with him much more than twitter rumours

SBT rumours thank you very much! So you think we won’t be trying to offload Dasilva in the summer? More likely we’re keeping Bidwell as backup and looking for a new LB IMO. I think the extension is madness and also not a lot to do with Lampard as we’ve seen with Eccles. Under this system he doesn’t have much to do with contracts, that’s Austin.

I think in all fairness the issue is the ex-Chelsea youth experiment on the whole just didn't come off.

Wakefield, Collins, JDS, Panzo, Palmer, Kane etc. It's all speculative obviously but you have to wonder whether the recruitment department had actually identified some decent targets in some of those positions and Adi just pulled rank and said he wanted to work with the above instead.

Bidwell's spent the majority of his career in top-end Championship teams.

There's a reason for that.

If you look at players who have played since Bidwell joined there will be loads that have started more than 70% of available games I'm sure

Why do we pretend age isn’t a thing?

If you’re happy aiming for a top half finish and maybe trying to sneak into the final playoff position then Bidwell would be fine. I’m more ambitious than that; I’d imagine you are too.

Bidwell has spent most of his career at the top of the championship, and reached the play offs with multiple teams.

I've just done a bit of googling.

In the 10 full seasons he's played in the Championship, on four occasions he's been in the play-offs (with three different clubs), twice he's finished 9th, once he swapped clubs half way through (eventually ending up in 12th with us), and it was only in three seasons with QPR that he ended up with the lower mid-table stodge.

In all of those seasons, he never featured fewer than 30 times.

To suggest Bidwell hasn’t been a first choice regular since he signed is laughable
