For those who don't know, Billy collided with a concrete wall during Chichester's match at Wingate & Finchley FC in the Isthmian league. He suffered a severe brain injury & has passed away at just 21 years old.

I know quite a few on here frequent non-league fixtures & will know that concrete walls in close proximity to the pitch are commonplace at these levels.

It was very nearly fatal to Bath City's Alex Fletcher a couple years ago too & it's pretty clear something needs to be done.

How can they have full on walls so close to the pitch?

I know somebody at a low level who got injured by the metal railings around the pitch. Quite a bad injury from getting tangled.

Something similar happened at Bath City last year, surely they need to either remove them or have padding on them. What a terrible tragedy

I thought this was an old story when first read it. How can it keep happening? What a shame

Happened to me when I was 14 playing 16/17 year olds. Got barged into metal railings and broke my wrist very, very badly.

Bizarrely there's a fortune wasted on football but not enough to protect at that level, Go figure
