Just watched a film ...finding Jack Charlton...very good and very sad ... RIP big man

Yes I have watched it as well. Had dementia and couldn't remember a lot of things. Such a shame. Terrible illness that.

I only saw England play once. It was against Portugal (late 60’s. Jack scored the only goal about 5 mins in.

I was stunned to see how severe his dementia actually was.

I'm the furthest thing from an expert but speaking on the experience of watching family members suffer with it, they were able to remember things in the distant past quite well but it was the short term memory that was especially affected.

JC seemed to struggle remembering, or recognising anyone from any decade - including himself.

Very sad to watch but what a character he was.

He was a great player, coach and manager. He had great insight and was honest.

I had the privilege of meeting him briefly on the street in Filey a few years ago. Unfortunately the signs of demetia were there but his presonality still shone through and my two terriers put a big smile on his face.

A legend in my book.
