Big Home Crowd Syndrome (2 Viewers)

Big crowd at the Arena? We lose.

Why? It keeps happening, again and again. Yet another wasted opportunity to encourage the missing fans and Sky Blue Army: The Next Generation to come back to the Arena.

Yet today was different!

Has been the argument in the past, but every time in the past we have failed to turn up and not looked half the side we have been capable of being.

Tonight we played well and there is no doubt we should have won that game. We just didn't get the rub of the green. I don't think today had anything to do with the big crowd/important game syndrome. I really don't.

But we didn't. That's what the stay-ways and younglings will remember, not that their keeper played a blinder and we were a shade unlucky in front of goal.

I took a friend to a game a few seasons back when City did some-kind of ticket offer. Decent crowd vs Preston, we got whacked 4-0. That friend hasn't been back since. Call him a Plastic but he's also a potential supporter.

This is a myth, most the games we get big crowds are against teams that should bet us!

I seem to remember us winning 1-0 v Wolves in front of 28k 1 yer.

I think today was part of the 4-4-2 curse, another home loss playing 4-4-2, by the way, has 'busted' another myth!

So fucking pissed off!

Define played well?

If I was a Crewe fan I would be extremely pleased with how they played tonight. Solid defence & took their chances.

Football is a simple game, score more than the opposition, which Crewe did very effectively. No points in football for lots of chances.

But my point is, every other time we have played poorly and not turned up. Today we did. Today we played well.

Big difference.

The other occasions we just have been lacklustre and not played to our potential. Today was nearly all about ill luck.

West Brom in the Cup? 25,000+? Lost 5-0.

OK, I admit, we had the fitness coach in charge for that one. :p

It does seem to happen every time there's a 'big' game. I said it to my lad as we left.

Leeds when we were 4th with Boothroyd in charge, lost 3-2 I think

Because it is such fine margins and football in a lot of ways is not quite so simple.

We play well and lose and people say we were shite. We play badly and win and everyone's happy.

Had 3 of those chances gone in and we had won, but played exactly the same way everyone would have been saying how well we played.

Well just cos they didn't go in doesn't mean we played poorly.

I came away tonight and thought we played well but just had ill luck and a keeper of theirs in stunning form.

That was the difference. We should have quite clearly won that game by at least 3 clear goals.

I agree, but in the grand scheme of luring fans back, I don't think tonight's game will do much good in the long run. We've got to start taking opportunities like this, how long until the next 25,000 crowd at the Arena?

Define well? Great passing moves: Check. 25 shots on goal: check. High work ethic: Check.

We created, we worked and we generally outplayed Crewe. I'm gutted. In a state of shock!

That's the power of scorelines though Otis-and seeing that one tonight makes me cringe just looking at it, let alone the folk who actually went and aren't among the regulars.

But this is where its all about opinions. One team has all the play and chances, the other scores 3 goals in 3 attacks. Were taking too much from Crewe here I think.

Nail. Head.

Fans from previous years (not marinated in the #IWillBeThere hype or even following the City too closely this or many previous seasons) will see the scoreline in the paper or on SSN and think "typical Cov, they've fooked it up again."

I mean, City 0 vs 3 Crewe - seriously?!!!? Their home record is actually very decent so I bet they would have been very happy with a draw. 3-0 lead? Dreamland for them.

Dreamland for anyone. The only way for such fans to be pulled back is with a huge miracle in the return fixture-but seeing flipping Crewe at Wembley in that final will be bitter to accept. For all of the good sides in L1 we've beat, we've lost to some names that just make you want to bang your head against a brick wall. Call me arrogant (and I'm well aware it is), but the current status of the club right now and the level of opposition we're no better than is so frustrating to see.

Spot on Cable Guy. These "real" fans really make me laugh. They moan when people don't come, and when they do they call them plastic!

Face facts - without the "plastic" fans, cov will NEVER escape this league.

To anyone still questioning the impact of DM, just look how many shots were taken by cov. Utterly pointless having 20+ shots if NONE hit the back of the net!

Crewe 7 shots - 3 goals.

Cov getting promotion?

NOT A CHANCE...

Cov improved under Robins?

Got to be Joking

Goalscoring halved since McGoldrick left. PROOF if more proof were needed that the teams "improvement" was down to the performance of one man. And when it is down to one man's performance you CANNOT claim the team has improved!

Rumour has it that if you stand in front of the mirror and say 'City lost' 3 times, you can hear psgm cry 'Robins out' in the far distance.

Let's hope that this isn't a missed opportunity to regain the missing fans. Despite the result you couldn't fault the team for providing great value entertainment. It will be interesting to see what the backlash will be regarding crowd numbers for Yeovil at home on Saturday...........................
