Been to see 'The Long Walk' tonight. An early Stephen King adaptation.

Thought it was really good.
Wholesome, but also really bleak and horrific in parts (especially the first kill, christ).
Very thought provoking, would definitely recommend

Went to see it last night, one of my films of the year.

I thought the two leads, David Jonnson and Copper Hoffman were outstanding ( must be award nominees )

As you say, it was dark, brutal and bleak as fuck.

What shocked me as much as the first kill, was the first lad who dropped his trousers and started shitting on the road - I just wasn`t expecting it !

By the end of the film, you really want the remaining five lads to survive, even though you know it can`t happen.

I`m not ashamed to say, I was welling up at the end.

( thought the ambiguous ending was very fitting too )

I`d really like to watch it again, but really concentrate on the dialogue this time and see what I missed.

It won`t be for everyone though, as it`s very slow, the levels of brutality are just shocking and it`s just so bleak.

Very slow, and thought the acting in particular the accents were very poor.

If it wasn't for the kill's i would have assumed it was a made for nickelodeon film.

Yeah, I really liked it. All the characters were really likeable which made it worse when you knew there could only be one winner.

They changed the ending from how the books ends and I think it was definitely for the better

I liked the ending too, as normally they bottle the endings, knowing that American audiences expect a happy ending.

The ending of the film was a real bender and ambiguous, which I thought really finished the film off well.

I never realised that this was King`s first ever novel that he wrote !

Never heard of this film until reading about it on here, and just back from the cinema having watched it.
Definite Stephen King story. Gave me Stand By Me vibes.
Really like yer man David Jonsson. He was very good in Alien: Romulus.
I liked it. Thanks folks.

Things That Annoy Me: they have introduced the weirdest service system at my local odeon. You go make your order, then have to go elsewhere to collect your purchase. Last time we went for ice cream, unaware of this new system. So queued at the ice cream place only to be told “you go and order from there”…a station about 100 yards away. So we go and order and then have to trudge back 100 yards to collect our ice cream.
This time it was less busy so ordered our hotdogs (yeah, yeah I know) from the woman behind the counter and walked to the place we pick them up, only to be handed them by the woman who’d just taken our order.

(I should say we normally don’t have anything/take our own stuff in).

Cold water, the fella from walking dead.

It drags on a bit. The premise is alright but could have been half the time.

I gave it the first episode but having watched him bite people's throats out and lopping off zombie heads I can't buy him as a massive wuss who somehow manages to get right into inexplicable aggro so much.

Yeah I ended up watching the whole series over the weekend, and it was entertaining but the characters and their decisions just just felt so ridiculous and unbelievable. Drove me mad, especially the ending.
They probably want a second series

Yeah, agree. Rather ludicrous and unbelievable

And Lincoln's character was behaving so oddly, yet barely anyone batted an eyelid.

I enjoyed it, but found it very annoying and I think Andrew Lincoln was miscast.

Yeah definitely agree about the casting.
I didn't actually like any of the main characters, but it was entertaining enough to keep going

Gary Oldman was born to play Jackson Lamb.

It`s the rarity that the TV series is every bit as good as the books.

Ewan Bremner is really good in it, he could easily be his Trainspotting character in later life. Indira Varma is pleasing to the eye too👁 .I can't work out whether to laugh or take the program seriously at times though. I'm quite enjoying it.

Liked it at first, but they didn't half drag it out. Could have been at least two episodes shorter, to my mind.

Shame, because it's got a great cast.

By the end I was frustrated with it

Spoilers!
In the book, Ray Garraty wins instead (the generals son character is second), but has lost his mind by the end, sees a scary dark figure and then just starts running and it's left for interpretation what happens to him

We watched The Long Walk last night. I was a fan of the book as a teenager and have been keen for an adaptation for a long time.

I thought it was really fucking good. The acting alone is worth the price of a ticket, to a person everyone in the film is fantastic and I fully believe that in five years we will look back on this and marvel at how stacked it was with future stars. I've been a fan of David Jonsson since his work on Industry and Rye Lane and he's phenomenal in the movie.

They did a great job of capturing the book's obvious but effective allegory to the Vietnam war, seeing the kids starting naively then having to quickly come to terms with the futility and brutality of their situation was very captivating. The movie looks gorgeous start to end and the soundtrack is great too!

Alien Earth.

I can`t tell you how much I`ve been looking forward to it, which made the fact that it`s pretty poor all the worse.

For something that is allegedly the most expensive tv series of all time ( $250 mil for eight episodes ) you`d have expected much much more.

The writing is shocking, the Alien is almost a side issue, as there`s that much other stuff going on and apart from Timothy Olyphant, Ade Edmonson and Babou Ceesay, the rest of the cast are underwhelming ( not helped by the script )

There`s one standout episode (5) where the tension and suspense is really ramped up, but apart from that the whole thing just felt flat and a massive wasted opportunity.

I quite liked it and my takeaway was it was a bit of an allegory on modern themes like unchecked nutters rising to power and irresponsible implementation of tech like Ai. As in you are set up to worry about threats or authority but in the end it's their own creations that will bring the system down.

Wasn't blown away but way better than anything since Alien 3 and at least an interesting twist on the series.

I`d have much rather they`d gone down with the battle for mankind, with the Aliens taking root on the planet and mankind fighting for it`s very survival as a species.

Who knows, maybe this where it`ll eventually end up, as there`ll 100% be another series, due to the very good viewing figures and the overall positive response from the critcs.

I`d just like to have seen a lot more of the Aliens, rather than all of the other stuff.

I enjoyed it overall but I can see why some didn't, and the ending was quite frustrating and incomplete.
Felt like it all sets up for a second series and that's not even been confirmed yet - this is becoming an annoying trend in modern TV shows.

Spoilers - In the end only two named characters died as far as I can tell, and both could potentially return anyway as one is a machine and the other has the eyeball controlling him

Agree about the acting. Morrow was my favourite character by far.

I loved it....

At first. Thought the first couple of episodes were excellent, but it completely lost it's way and became frustrating.

Too much going on, too many monsters and no real moral compass. Everyone, pretty much was a baddie in the end.

And Wendy didn't make sense. She seemed to be pure and good, but then suddenly seemed completely content in letting hoards of random people get slaughtered.
