Took my wife, Mum-in-law and my Mum last night (Friday night special) to the Greyhound for the Fish and Chips, we found the service excellent along with the haddock, mushy pea's and very good Ale, however the chips were a little soft/under-cooked, prefer 'em crispier, the meals came out fast, so wonder if that was why they were soft. For a great curry, cheap and excellent service I'd go for My Dhabba on Spon St.
Normal Pub grub with a nice Ale or two on tap, it's gotta be The Greyhound at Sutton Stop, they also do Fish and Chips night on a Friday, but haven't been to that yet.

I prefer another new bar there, 'The Pestle and Mortar'. It's been set up in an old chemist shop, hence the name but is a real ale and cider destination although I usually have the Veltins on draft !A few places just outside Coventry (but still with a CV postcode) that are well worth trying:
San Giovannis
Turpins
The Book Barn (for breakfast/coffee)
I’d also recommend a trip to Hinckley (bare with me), they have a newly developed area called the Crescent which has a decent choice of restaurants (Wildwood is the best), a nice cinema and best of all a tap house called Elbow Room which has a great atmosphere and a good choice of ales, gin, wines etc.
We sometimes pop in after a home game.We go to the Greyhound before every home game for lunch and a few guest ales. The only downside is that it is often more enjoyable than the game itself!

I remember being taken to Woolworths once for lunch as a treat in the 70's. You had to go up a flight of stairs from the main shopping level to reach the 'restaurant'. There were about 30 steps, and on at least 10 of them was a small dollop of shit. I think the toilets were upstairs too, and obviously some poor kid had not managed to hold it all in whilst being dragged to the bogs by his mum and it had plopped out through his shorts. Anyone care to admit the crime after all these years? (nice fishfingers, chips & peas by the way)I used to like the Woolworths and BHS cafeterias. As you can tell, I am no gourmet.
Food is something you eat when you are hungry and if you aren't hungry or ill after eating it, it was good food.

I have to say there is a fantastic new place just opened opposite Bayton Rd, Exhall. It's called "E11evanses" and the food offered is brilliant! It's a brunch bar, open from 7.00am - 2.30pm every day except Sunday. Fabulous full breakfasts from 9.00am. Takeaway snacks, choice of burgers, sandwiches, paninis and jacket spuds. Tea - 80p! Coffee - £1.00! Where else can you get value like this?

Ignore the opening times on the menu. They used to close on a Monday but have now changed that to Sundays.
How do I know all of this?
Because it is my daughter and son-in-law that have started this venture! I am really proud of what they have achieved and to see the response from customers on Facebook is amazing. Please, if you're in that area any time, call in and see what's on offer.

Thanks Nick. I've given them the link to this post so hopefully they'll spot that! I know my daughter is a brilliant chef as I've had many Sunday dinners at their house! So I know her breakfast would be something really special. I, personally, can't wait to try it out!Went past there the other day. The signage stood out.
I am not too sure if the guy just down from them in the Everfresh van is still there, if he isn't they can clean up on the breakfast market
I am absolutely sure she will do your bacon exactly how you want it shmmeee! I know that's one of the things that they want to achieve, and that is customer satisfaction. If you want crispy bacon, just ask and she will do you crispy bacon!Any good greasy spoon recommendations?
Houch, your daughter's place looks alright, might give that a go one Saturday. Does she do her bacon crispy? That's all I ever ask for in a bacon butty.

We went to the Hickory Smokehouse last night, 14 of us. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.
Will definitely go back.
Definitely going to have to give it another go!
Ooh, I will have to try them next time. I went for the magic dusted fries on this occasion.I also like it there. Their slow cooked brisket is a thing of beauty, and the chilli cheese fries are so much better than anything I've had before.

There are five vegetarian main course choices on the menu, so loads to choose from. More choices than most places I would say. What on earth as a vegetarian did you eat?

I went for the mushroom and halloumi burger, which was really, really nice.
No, not a vegan. Would really narrow my choices down if I went in that direction.Ah ok not vegan then
you never know what will happen if you ask for 'clispy bacon' in a Thai hotel.Just out of curiosity, how does one make crispy bacon? Just leave it grilling/frying for a lot longer? I realise this may seem like a completely stupid question, but I also prefer it, however the only place I've ever been served it is in a hotel in Thailand.
Grilling is best for crispy bacon. Not my preference though. I stick mine in the microwave for 2¾ minutes on a small plate, covered with a plastic microwave cover. Cook on 80%. No messy frying pan or grill! Stick it between two slices of bread and butter - Luvverly!!Just out of curiosity, how does one make crispy bacon? Just leave it grilling/frying for a lot longer? doesn't microwaved bacon smell like 'wet dog'?Grilling is best for crispy bacon. Not my preference though. Only if you've just put it in just after taking your wet dog out of it.doesn't microwaved bacon smell like 'wet dog'?
