Nice lunchtime grub to be had at the Stockpot cafe. (Ryton Organic Gardens)

They do some evening events too, heard good reports, but not done it meself.

Another shout here for Hill Top. Nice meals. Will be there for bonfire night (ticket only). Very busy, good grub to be had (Pork/Beef Batches, hot dogs etc, beer tent and a very good firework display.

I do like the batches in the Hearsall, not sure where he gets them from but the bread is always lovely. Quite interested in that Japanese place, how does it compare to Wagamama on price ?

For a great curry, cheap and excellent service I'd go for My Dhabba on Spon St.

Normal Pub grub with a nice Ale or two on tap, it's gotta be The Greyhound at Sutton Stop, they also do Fish and Chips night on a Friday, but haven't been to that yet.

Wife is a veggie and have two small children so normally we would aim for pub grub type places which can get a bit repetitive at times (old Smithy etc). The Skylark is a great café up in Northamptonshire way, we cycle up that way at times. Top quality food, nice views there also and great coffee.

Took my wife, Mum-in-law and my Mum last night (Friday night special) to the Greyhound for the Fish and Chips, we found the service excellent along with the haddock, mushy pea's and very good Ale, however the chips were a little soft/under-cooked, prefer 'em crispier, the meals came out fast, so wonder if that was why they were soft.

We go to the Greyhound before every home game for lunch and a few guest ales. The only downside is that it is often more enjoyable than the game itself!

A few places just outside Coventry (but still with a CV postcode) that are well worth trying:

San Giovannis
Turpins
The Book Barn (for breakfast/coffee)

I’d also recommend a trip to Hinckley (bare with me), they have a newly developed area called the Crescent which has a decent choice of restaurants (Wildwood is the best), a nice cinema and best of all a tap house called Elbow Room which has a great atmosphere and a good choice of ales, gin, wines etc.

I prefer another new bar there, 'The Pestle and Mortar'. It's been set up in an old chemist shop, hence the name but is a real ale and cider destination although I usually have the Veltins on draft !

We sometimes pop in after a home game.
I tried the Theakston's Mild for the first time and was consequently blown away how bloody nice it was!

I used to like the Woolworths and BHS cafeterias. As you can tell, I am no gourmet.
Food is something you eat when you are hungry and if you aren't hungry or ill after eating it, it was good food.

Agreed, there’s a always a good choice in there. Great chilli nuts too! I usually also include Steamin Billies in my mini ale trail if I’m over that direction!

I have to say there is a fantastic new place just opened opposite Bayton Rd, Exhall. It's called "E11evanses" and the food offered is brilliant! It's a brunch bar, open from 7.00am - 2.30pm every day except Sunday. Fabulous full breakfasts from 9.00am. Takeaway snacks, choice of burgers, sandwiches, paninis and jacket spuds. Tea - 80p! Coffee - £1.00! Where else can you get value like this?

Ignore the opening times on the menu. They used to close on a Monday but have now changed that to Sundays.
How do I know all of this?
Because it is my daughter and son-in-law that have started this venture! I am really proud of what they have achieved and to see the response from customers on Facebook is amazing. Please, if you're in that area any time, call in and see what's on offer.

I remember being taken to Woolworths once for lunch as a treat in the 70's. You had to go up a flight of stairs from the main shopping level to reach the 'restaurant'. There were about 30 steps, and on at least 10 of them was a small dollop of shit. I think the toilets were upstairs too, and obviously some poor kid had not managed to hold it all in whilst being dragged to the bogs by his mum and it had plopped out through his shorts. Anyone care to admit the crime after all these years? (nice fishfingers, chips & peas by the way)

Went past there the other day. The signage stood out.

I am not too sure if the guy just down from them in the Everfresh van is still there, if he isn't they can clean up on the breakfast market

Any good greasy spoon recommendations?

Houch, your daughter's place looks alright, might give that a go one Saturday. Does she do her bacon crispy? That's all I ever ask for in a bacon butty.

Thanks Nick. I've given them the link to this post so hopefully they'll spot that! I know my daughter is a brilliant chef as I've had many Sunday dinners at their house! So I know her breakfast would be something really special. I, personally, can't wait to try it out!

I am absolutely sure she will do your bacon exactly how you want it shmmeee! I know that's one of the things that they want to achieve, and that is customer satisfaction. If you want crispy bacon, just ask and she will do you crispy bacon!

Then I’m there. You’d be amazed how hard it is to get batch shops/greasy spoons to crisp your bacon.

It's a shame it's slightly a bit too far out for city fans, could do a special matchday deal.

We went to the Hickory Smokehouse last night, 14 of us. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.

Will definitely go back.

I also like it there. Their slow cooked brisket is a thing of beauty, and the chilli cheese fries are so much better than anything I've had before.

Ooh, I will have to try them next time. I went for the magic dusted fries on this occasion.

There are five vegetarian main course choices on the menu, so loads to choose from. More choices than most places I would say.

I went for the mushroom and halloumi burger, which was really, really nice.

No, not a vegan. Would really narrow my choices down if I went in that direction.

Just out of curiosity, how does one make crispy bacon? Just leave it grilling/frying for a lot longer? I realise this may seem like a completely stupid question, but I also prefer it, however the only place I've ever been served it is in a hotel in Thailand.

you never know what will happen if you ask for 'clispy bacon' in a Thai hotel.

Grilling is best for crispy bacon. Not my preference though. I stick mine in the microwave for 2¾ minutes on a small plate, covered with a plastic microwave cover. Cook on 80%. No messy frying pan or grill! Stick it between two slices of bread and butter - Luvverly!!

doesn't microwaved bacon smell like 'wet dog'?

Only if you've just put it in just after taking your wet dog out of it.
