Eddie Johnson and Patrick Suffolk with Graham Barrett on the wing.

Certainly pissed the Sunderland fans off

Darren could run quite fast* but he also also got caught offside quite frequently.
*he could still run quite fast at the Legends match actually.

looking at that video, we've had some good players from north o' the border over the years. Stein was a no nonsense beast of a cf and Roy Barry was the same at ch.

From recent years, Aloisi and Keane. But our most classic forward line was Rees, Machin, Hudson, Hale and Humphries.

I just wish Strachan had given our foreign strikers, at the time, more of a chance. Aloisi, Roussel, Moldovan, Zuniga. It's like he was too afraid to give them a run to acclimatise to the team.

Plus, the way he played Keane in 99-00 for away games was truly abysmal.

Whelan, Dublin, Huckerby all quite prolific iirc.

older-Skool then I'd say Cyrille, Benno

Jumpers for goalposts etc.

What we need to remember about Mick Ferguson is he was okay but his purple patch season with Ian Wallace was he scored his goals in patches I think he got three hat -tricks and a four against Ipswich. He wasn't a goal every other game merchant as Wallace was

Similar players, imo - natural finishers, excellent goals to games ratio, but Strachan's infinite wisdom left them both frozen out.

If only he'd given Moldovan a chance to shine, the guy was willing and we had a few glimpses of what he was capable of.

No offence to Zuniga and Roussel, but Moldovan was a different level.

Jordan Clarke up top with Slager at Orient away under Pressley. Lethal.

Moldovan was a world-class striker who was stupidly never given a chance. Zuniga was also excellent and could have been a great player for us. We also had a talented striker (3 goals in 5 starts for us) called Jairo Martinez, a Honduras international, another player never really given an opportunity. Let's face it Strachan was an old-school player and manager who could not see beyond his own very limited horizon.

Recent, you do realise that the debut of that partnership was 16 years ago!

When you are as old as me, that is recent. Don't worry, you will get there ...

I think wallaces running and his overall game brought the best out of fergie . Without him Ferguson looked a bit ordinary ( to put it kindly)

Great pair of strikers in a great team. Fergie was the best header of the ball that I have seen. He could dominate the opposing centre half and find team mates what ever the ball into his head.Loved that team.
