I love all the positivity around the club currently and I know Grimes is doing a good job but it is early days, however, who would you think of as the best Captain since our relegation from the PL.

I have decided to not include people like Ricketts, Wright, Eustace or Grimes mainly because they wouldn't fit on the poll and most probably wouldn't vote for them (Grimes due to it being too early) and I have included McFadz as he captained a lot despite not being the permanent captain

Doyle was the perfect signing at the time, a masterstroke by Robins. He dragged us up from league two kicking and screaming.

I went Fadz, but Doyle is a very close second. He was very influential in that L2 season and who knows where we'd be today if we hadn't gone up then.

Doyle without a doubt, kept this team alive during so much shit. We wouldn't have come through without him

I believe Nathan Clarke who was a RB but wore number 7

A Centre Back who wore No.7. For that reason alone you are justified in erasing him from your memory.

I believe Doyle Second time dragged us up and was a lynchpin. I do think that Kelly and Fadz leaving left a huge leadership vaccum in our club at the time. I think they both drove the standards massively

Ah that's even worse. I thought he was a RB which is bad enough wearing the 7 shirt.....CB is even more ludicrous. Like Gallas wearing the 10

Was a toss up between Doyle and Fadz but I give it to Doyle purely for the shite he got us through. Would love to see one of them back at the club in a coaching role one day maybe

I’ve gone with Kelly, tough choice Doyler and Fadz were my other options but the longevity Kelly had and his influence especially in the 22/23 run to the playoffs

Fadz. It would have been Doyle if it was his second spell only though.

I do think legend is a term thrown around nowadays but Doyle is a legend of this club due to his influence in Lg2.

I would suggest Kelly and Fadz are both legends too.

They were my top three, with a special shout out for Dann as he was a good player for us and was signed in the first year I had a season ticket at 12 years old

It was also Doyle that convinced McNulty to come here rather than I believe Mansfield. I dread to think what that season looks like without McNulty tbh.

Everyone always speaks about having ex-players back as coaches. But I’d genuinely have Fadz back as a coach - the magic he worked on defensive partners over the years clearly shows he has ‘it’.

Doyle in L2 turned the corner but Fadz for being the rock on which league 1 and the early Championship years eclipses Doyle for me

Close one between Doyle and Fadz. But Fadz just nicks it.

Fadz.
I'm still convinced Kitchings turn around is down to him and he wasn't even at the club!

Voted Kelly but only cos it was basically him and Fadz together and he was there from the start but Fadz equally. Doyle was great in many ways and uncaptain like in others IMO. Fadz and Kelly are archetypal captains. Just what you want to represent your club.

I went for Kelly too. Fadz close second. Doyle overrated from his second spell but was poor for a lot of his first.

Picked McF but it wasn’t easy. I don’t think the other captains had such a big impact on the performances of those around them, and as much as the 22-23 team was famed for Hamer and Vik, it kept a very mean defence with McF at its core.

That aside, he’s just a really decent bloke. Hope he comes back here in some capacity when he retires

Stephen Hughes...Christ! I remember him. He played well in his first season to earn the bumper 3 year contract he was after, then basically was half the player we saw in that first season from that moment on. He would jog around in the middle playing simple sideways passes, letting Doyle do all the hard work. Still gives me chills. I am sure some called their partnership the Axis of Evil.

Hard to gauge many of the most important leadership qualities from the stands, but McFadzean did all the stereotypical captain stuff well. Dann was probably the best player out of that lot though.

McFadz for me, I love that photograph, forget who it was against, there were three defenders flat out on the floor, with Kyle just walking away, brilliant.

If anyone's got that photograph could they post it on here please.

I voted Doyle, but was never a big fan of his during the Championship days, apart from when he was partnered by Dennis Wise for half a season. However, he was such a key figure in that League 2 promotion, and clearly cared for the club.

There's a few missing Casley, McCallister, Sheffers and Wood, plus Ricketts, Steven Wright and Reda Johnson. I'm sure there are others.

I've gone with Kelly as technically Fadz wasn't the captain.
