James Bond, ranked top to last.

Doctor Who, top to last.

Batman, top to last.

Sherlock Holmes, top to last

And any other character you can think of.

For me -

James Bond

1. Daniel Craig
2. Sean Connery
3. Timothy Dalton
4. Pierce Brisbane
5. Roger Moore
6. George Lazenby.

Doctor Who

1. Tom Baker
2. Matt Smith
3. Peter Capaldi
4. Patrick Troughton
5. David Tennant
6. John Pertwee
7. Christopher Eccleston
8. William Hartnell
9. Sylvester McCoy
10. Peter Davidson
11. Colin Baker

Batman

1. Michael Keaton
2. Christian Bale
3. Val Kilmer
4. George Clooney
5. Adam West

Bit ropey on Sherlock Holmes, because so many have played him and there are a number I haven't seen.

Sherlock Holmes

1. Basil Rathbone
2. Benedict Cumberbatch
3. Robert Downey Jnr.
4. Peter Cushing

Never ever saw Jeremy Brett play the role.

I know.

I really don't see McGann as Doctor Who, it is so different from the series and concept in so many ways.

Also missed Peter Cushing off too, from the 60's movies.

Niven is a Bond satire/pastiche, so again, not at all Bondish.

It's interesting on Bond. When I watched the films back then I really liked Roger Moore as Bond. Now when I reflect on him though, I find his portrayal as oafish, clownish and a tad embarrassing.

For me, Connery's Bond has stood the test of time, while Moore's, although later, have dated quite badly.

Bond:
Connery
Craig
Dalton
Brosnan
Moore
(Shout out to Bob Holness for not only being the world's best super spy but also the student's choice of 80s quizmaster)

Didn't include Lazenby as I can't remember much about his single appearance

Batman:
West (bizarrely, the reasons I dislike Moore as Bond are the reasons I love Adam West as Batman)
Keaton
Bale
Clooney
Affleck

Kilmer

Not seen Ben Affleck as Batman yet, so can't comment.

West is great, but purely as a send-up and of course he is a million miles away from what Batman is supposed to be.

Lots of people having downey Jr low down the Sherlock tier.
Isn't his portrayal the most accurately put on screen, opium abuse etc?

Sean Connery ( no one else comes near )
David tennant ( this probably hardest choice, Tom Baker for nostalgia )
Adam west
Cumberbatch ( mostly cuz of favoured actor )
