Im not sure after Assante and Mason Clark landing anyone was shouting for another forward. We needed a CM and tried to get at least three in that I’m aware of

Issue there is most Championship teams won’t play like Spurs did and invite a counter attack. Nothing wrong with possession, the problem has been the tempo being far too slow and players not moving off the ball.

One or two touch football is how it needs to be done.

Yeah, against both Watford and Spurs we moved ball quicker and went a bit longer down channels, using our strengths better

I must be missing the Simms skillset that would make him a good right wing player!
His problem as a target man is that he is so limited. Not great at holding up and laying off the ball, not great in the air, can't really control the ball and take it past a defender, doesn't chase and hassle defenders. He is good at bursts of speed into the box and has some strength.

I'm a big Bertie fan after last night.

I do like Simms but think if a decent bid comes in for him in January we should sell him re-invest the money and play Bertie instead.

The Hound can’t be playing 90+ minutes every game. It’s good to have two very different style players for one position.

it's funny how some players just drop into teams naturally .. maybe he's suited to our play, the championship or just sheer effort but it does at this early stage look like we have found another gem.

this is very accurate- it’s either “he has to start” or “get rid”, with never anything in the middle. Eccles was branded dogshit in previous matches, tonight from the comments you’d think he was destined for an England call-up.

So the alternative is to…? Persevere with inconsistent forwards?

MR had to do it last season, as we had no options. Now he has options, and should therefore utilise the talent he has when a player is not performing in a manner that benefits the team.

For me, nobody is in that team because they cost X-amount or scored X-amount last season. This and last season are not even comparable, imo.

Feel both have very good attributes - purely a matter of picking the right striker for the team you're playing against is the way i see it.

Bassette's physical abilities along with his confidence at such a young age mean we have a real exciting talent on our hands

You’re missing the point, and I feel, being a tad melodramatic.

He is inconsistent, misses gilt-etched chances regularly, and needs those around him to get his confidence rolling.

Someone like Bassette, or even Gyokeres when he was here, will lead the line and aggressively attack as per instructions. Desire, I feel, is a huge chunk of it.

Nobody is advocating ‘binning’ Simms, but 12 league goals last term after huge patches of poor form, and the same recurring this term, I would suggest that nobody is guaranteed a starting place this season. Last season was different, we had zero depth to utilise.

Yeah that's very true specially as he's only 19. I think they would both work well as a 2 as well

It's nice to have options for the first time in forever.

Bassette comes across on the pitch as an absolute prick, he's leaving his foot in on defenders and he's in their ear giving them stick. It's what we need, we would be giving him so much shit if he was playing against us.

That turn he did in the first couple of minutes where he was fouled, he knew he had their defender on toast so wanted the same every time.

Even if he was going to win a header or a race with a defender or not, he was still putting them under and forcing them to make a decision.

Loved the fact that immediately after that turn where he was fouled, he was holding an imaginary card at the ref and Eccles had to pull him away for being naughty. It should have been a yellow for sure.

Not so fast sonny, end of the season I reckon, maybe Brentford or someone like them, assuming he stays injury free!and has another season of scoring in the championship, like I say Norman's definitely got it but he isn't fine tuned yet, beautiful assist though,it could work the other way but you'd be taking maybe £5m-10m hit on valuation IMO?

Think some are missing the point. It's not about Simms being shit at all - he's a good player and should have had 2x assists last night.

But Bassette has a drive that tbf nobody else seems to, not just Simms. The way he plays I think is exactly what we need but again it's early days yet.

If we can find a way to play them together it might he a very interesting partnership. If it's like for like then I think Bassette will probably be a better fit long term but he will need to earn that by scoring goals, which he hasn't done yet.

The takeaway here should be that we are in such a good position to have a proven goalscorer that is being challenged by a young star in the making. How is anyone kicking off about that?

I have no issue with people preferring a player. I do have issue with the fans that constantly need to add a kick to player when praising another. its such a weird attitude

For me he's like our Godden replacement, the rest of our front men aren't the type that are quick and in behind like Godden. BTA is strong and can make a run but Godden and Bertie can both slip a defender and get onto a ball over the top. A bit like Vardy I suppose.

Seems like one of those proper mouthy young lads you'd play against on a Sunday morning, who also would annoyingly be one of the best players in the team. Love him already

I do think Bassette’s work rate brought the best out of Rudoni. In many league matches so far, Rudoni seems hesitant to press aggressively as Simms doesn’t have the same tenacity and there will always be an out-ball. On a few occasions last night, Bassette instigated the press then Rudoni went as well.

It comes down to playing styles, really. They’ll both have good seasons I think.

Where's the positivity in this?
There is no reason to rush Norman at all while we build Simms into the saleable asset he is with active progression this season,no need at all to rush things, he'll get get plenty of game time!

What I like about Bassette is he isn't scared of dishing out shit to the more senior pros if he doesn't get the ball where he wants it( where it should be on most occasions).

Great that someone so young, and new to the squad, has the arrogance to do that, exactly what a top striker needs, and he is going to be a top striker for us.

I can see Basette playing on the left side of attack. I’m seriously having doubts about Hagi Wright again, he’s either brilliant or dog shit, there’s no in between with him.

Hang on let me get this right ….

Some City fans think we should drop 19 goal Simms because he’s raw and unproven for Norman who is raw and yet to score a goal.

Don’t get me wrong I like the look of Norman but one step at a time …..

Bassette and Simms are completely different. I noticed Bassette was always trying to play on the shoulder of the last man. He made a few runs that had they been spotted, would have got him in on goal. The one from Eccles is a perfect example of this. He’s also intelligent enough to find space in the channels, which led to his assist.
I think Nick said it would be interesting to see Bassette and Simms linking up and I agree
