Very early days I know but...

I think Bertie is going to become first choice at some point this season.

He plays with an intensity and drive that Simms doesn't have. I like Simms so this isn't a bash simms thread, but he is so passive compared to Bassette who really led the line tonight. Our solid defence started with him.

He chases everything down and harries the opposition, whereas Simms is often found jogging round the centre circle.

He makes it easy for people to find him, ping the ball up and 9/10 times he will get there.

Personally, I would start him on Saturday.

Bassette deserves to start based on what I’ve seen from both so far this season.

Big difference is Simms is a proven goal scorer. Bassette is not at the moment. That’s not saying Bassette won’t get there but it does mean Simms is currently 1st choice.

He looks a better footballer, tbf.

The way he took on that ball over the top from Eccles and got a very good shot away was a level of technique Simms doesn't seem to have.

Squad depth. Great he seems so up to speed so early on. Didn't expect him to be near the first team at this point.

Be real. Have you forgotten last season. In the Championship. When he scored goals.

They need to be judged on form and the opposition / their strengths and weaknesses.

No point playing somebody solely because they scored last season.

I wouldn't be opposed to them both playing up top.

Well, scored goals consistently for what, about an 8 game period in the league?

Hard to criticise Simms and Wright considering last season's goal tallies, but they are both underwhelming much of the time. There are occasional games where either of them show some aggression but few and far between. Bassette and Thomas-Asante have so much more endeavour about them. The way the latter took his goal was class. Bassette is a real handful and already has shown better decision making than Wright. I would start both on Saturday with Sakamoto on the right.

I think they would compliment each other - Bassette would be creating a shedload of chances for Simms.

Agree Bassette seems a better striker of the ball than Simms. The one he took from Eccles long pass and the angled drive in the second half, whilst didn't score worked the keeper on both occasions.

Feel like Simms has been in similar positions quite a few times recent and miscued his shot more than once.

Norman makes lots of runs in behind but we just don’t look to get it forward to him quickly enough.

Norman is really showing something special. I don't see how you can't reward that performance with a start on Saturday.

Why do people always talk like we have to bin one player off. Can't we be happy to have squad depth, to be able to rotate & rest players, to have cover for injuries?

Bassette for me all day

There was a moment with about 7 or 8 minutes to go, the ball.was cleared and when you would want your striker up there trying to hold it up and cause a nuisance

Simms was ambling a good 15 yards behind where he was meant to be

Robins was apoplectic at Simms, shouting, gesturing and generally going mental at him

Rightly so tbh, Simms sometimes is nowhere near on his positioning

Way too early to say that. They are so different.

Simms is oddly underrated by some, I think it's his size and calm nature that makes people think he's lazy. He is always challenging for the ball. Proven finisher and still very young. Seems we've started hitting more aimless long balls this season which is a bit of a thankless task for a striker to deal with but he always puts a shift in if you actually watch him.

Bassette looks more dynamic. Some one compared him to a young Vardy which I can totally see.

What great options to have, lucky to have both

He likes that left hand channel a lot so could maybe replace Wright who was largely underwhelming tonight .
Bassette - Simms - BTA ?

Nor would I. I thought tonight’s game suited the harrying style of Bassette and BTA as Spurs were always going to have a lot of the ball.

this is very accurate- it’s either “he has to start” or “get rid”, with never anything in the middle. Eccles was branded dogshit in previous matches, tonight from the comments you’d think he was destined for an England call-up.

Bassette will surely get ahead of timid Ellis at some point soon. Needs a couple of goals to top off the effort put in but adds a lot , especially when working defenders and creating space for his team members to run into.

How can you make that call? He's had about 6 shots total for us so far.

Simms has done well, no need to sell him short

Got my numbers wrong, 1 in his last 11 after he'd had a good run mid season.

He's scored in 10 of his 51 league appearances for us.

If I was to say that bassette is more of a mark robins player would that make sense ?

They both have their attributes , but I think Simms looked good at Watford

Robins will have to make decision at some point to build the team around him. I’m that confident he is the next big thing for us. What he’s capable of at his age is just baffling how we signed him.

When he's interviewed he seems so laid back, you need aggression to make it. Look at Vik, huge part of his game.

Bizarrely, although Bassette was quality tonight and a handful all game, with a bit of luck simms could’ve had a couple (or assists with EMC on far post) in the short time he was on the pitch. Fine margins

Very different players. Great to have options
