After Rotherham's bearded wonder kept out Liam Kelly's own goal of the season contender it would've been cruel to deny Hyam.

From Durham I think which makes him not a Mackem, might be wrong. I like him, he's played well and not out of his depth at this level, I guess we could probably improve on both of them though

My grandad was from Co. Durham, went to watch Newcastle and Sunderland on alternate weekends, didn't have a favourite. But could explain the difference between 'Haway' and 'Howay'

Amazing to think that some people were ready to write our season off when Marosi picked up his injury and suggested that Wilson would cost us a lot of points. Fair play, he has really stepped up.

I’ve never really understood the hate Wilson gets/got. He’s massively surpassed my expectations...which were entirely based on people here saying he was shite.
My partner is a cardiff fan...look no further if it’s dodgy goalkeepers you want.

I thought Marosi injury was a massive blow at the time credit where due he's stepped up

Interesting stats here: Championship Goalkeeper Stats | FBref.com

Wilson is 7th in the division for save % and “CS%” whatever that is (@Frostie?), well ahead of Marosi.

However, despite playing over 400 minutes less than Wilson, Marosi had 50% more saves to make (90/59). So clearly playing behind a much more leaky defence.

I hate Save % it's such a meaningless stat as it makes no attempt to judge the difficulty of a save. That incredible flying save from Wilson last night is given no more credit than a trickling shot straight at him from 20 yards.

The stat I believe best for truly assessing a goalkeeper's shot stopping is PSxG or 'Post Shot Expected Goals'. This takes into account the difficulty much better.

The y axis on the chart @AFCCOVENTRY posted earlier in the thread shows Wilson does pretty well on this scale too though, effectively saving over 2.5 'goals'.

This graph is 2-3 months out of date now but look at the Shot Difficulty Maroši used to face! That early part of the season was brutal defensively.

Not hate, but on his few appearances last season he was really, really bad.

It's been a massive relief he wasn't that bad!

I don’t think anyone actually ‘hates’ him - why is that on here commenting on a player’s ability is seen as hatred?

It's the in thing on social media. Either your a follower who worships the ground someone walks on or you hate them. Middle ground has been removed.

I was using modern parlance...ok, why do people perceive Ben Wilson ‘s performances, but not his character/personal attributes, to be below the standard that one would hope for from our goalkeeping custodian, and express this disappointment in such a crude and expletive laden manner?

Better?

Yup, I must admit I thought we would drop additional points without Marosi. I think Wilson was judged before he had really been given a go.

I was one of the people who thought not a chance we would do well before he actually played, will not be making that mistake again, the best no.2 in the Championship if he is still regarded as that

Sell Marosi, and bring in an experienced keeper for next year (Ruddy, Stockdale) and let them fight it out with Wilson for the shirt.

Well the other side of him today was seen despite a brilliant 1st half save followed by a frank Spencer cock up.

Top save, bad misjudgement of bounce( having had 70 plus minutes to watch it bouncing high) bad decision to grab player (it was being cleared, hence no red card)

He’s been good recently I agree but unfortunately for him (he seems like such a decent bloke) he’s just not good enough to be a Championship number one.

Coventry keeper’s penalty madness

Coventry goalkeeper Ben Wilson got away with one mistimed challenge in his area but later made a complete mess of a long ball and gave away a penalty, which Preston converted to win 1-0.
