Sounds good, "clever player" suggests more of a playmaker I'd guess, which is good if so because we've had a raft of decided average DMs from the academy in recent years.

Better to see the new crop rather rhan the has been academy players like Connor Thomas who just isn't all he was cracked up to be.

Stevenson, Maddison could be 2 new home grown players with real potential.

If Mowbray can get some solid decent experienced players who are still in their prime, it will be good.

Fleck was touted as the new Cascoigne, Connor went to Liverpool a few seasons back, apparently Barton ws on the verge of joining a premeier league team. Don't want to be seen as putting these lads down and hope they bring sucess but plaudits like these are meaningless. Need to here this season about the now, the future is important but we need a strong season this season to regenerate interest in the club

When people say "if Fleck was fit he'd be like Gascoigne" I think they mean Bianca.

For the season we need to have these inexperienced youth team players are unlikely to have an impact. As good as Maddisson was and will be he was used sparingly in our relegation battle. The real news will be the big signings as they will determine if we have a promotion charge. For the record since relegation- 14 seasons ago the youth team players that have come good Sheffers Davenport Wilson Christie Maddison BigBen Gael 7 in 14 years

Great to see these technical players coming through, small players which can still put a tackle in. Seems were moving on from bringing through these big lads over 6 foot and built who may look good in youth as there bigger than everyone else but get found out in mens football (Connor Thomas all over). Hope this lads gets chance!

Looks very good on the ball and seems to have bags of confidence.

So.........Whilst we hope he will make the transition SISU are probably hoping they can make a million.

Yes, they've been quite clear about that. Realistically this is how the club will survive. Hasn't done Southampton any harm has it?

Most of it was reinvested on the pitch though in trying to take the club forward with Southampton, money from our sales is going back into the club I don't doubt that. But its just going into funding the running of the club and keeping us ticking over rather than actually trying to improve and take the club forward.

Like the look of that lad, he seems to have the whole range of skills and used both feet too.

He seems to be the complete midfielder. Trickery, great range of passing, tenacious, great tackler and excellent vision.

My god have we needed that these past few years.

Let's hope he makes a breakthrough to the first team squad this year.

Ironic isn't it.

And I don't believe the original post was moaning, but realistic.

Yes the Knight said what I was thinking. Let's not build someone up and heap the pressure on. Just let the lad get on with it. Much better than grown men going all giddy over every bugger who can kick a ball straight

He looks promising. Lets not expect much next year though, but if some of the young lads we have got fulfil their potential the future is looking brighter.... maybe that is the real reason Mowbray signed

From the clips he is excellent with the ball in tight areas,, cuts the ball a lot, getting his body in good positions to allow himself time to see whats around him, protects the ball well. That attribute is something not many UK players have,, he plays the ball with the outside of his feet,, Scholes is the only one i can think of that used to do it a lot.....By the way ,,,, I'm not saying he is the next Scholes before i get jumped on....

Looks strong i can see why they gave him 2 years, allow him time to learn and develop in and around the 1st team..I think the 5 they have signed to pro contracts could all play regular first team within the next year or so.

And we have theperfect guy to bring them on in Tony Mowbray supported by Mark Venus. Atleast they will be in full control of these youngsters and bring them in bit by bit when ready and hopefully not be running round trying to sell them at the drop of a hat. Makes you wonder why Gregor Rioch was allowed to leave, or got rid of which is the rumour.

No it hasn't. Lets hope our production line is as strong as theirs. They still held on to lots of quality who eventually helped them progress.

Always worried that we sell far too early which ultimately harms our ability to progress.

We need to treat him carefully, but if he's good enough he should be in and around the first team squad. Not suggesting for a second that he can suddenly play a full campaign in the first team, but if he's that good then I see no reason why he can't be involved in at least part of the campaign.

He's 18, not 15. Been plenty of players who have played regular first team football younger than Stevenson, Trevor Francis - 16, Rooney - 16, McSheffrey - 16, Wilshere- 16, Beckham -17.

This lad of ours is 18. Yep, treat him carefully, but if he's good enough, he's old enough.
