Ben invited to train with Coventry City - News - Stratford Town Football Club

20-years-old, midfielder (according to Google) and their top goalscorer this season. Anyone know more about him considering he’s a local player?

Looks like an attacking wide player, scored 17 with 6 assists in 32 games according to their site.

It's a few leagues down so probably just having a look at him, looks like he was invited to train with Ipswich recently too.

Just looking at Google, the player is a Winger (need one of those), with 17 goals in 32 games, he also has 6 assists.

This is the type of player we should be signing - albeit he proves himself first!

Local players who can make the step up to League Football, who won't need much of an incentive.

It would be a pretty big step for this season surely? It's about 4 leagues lower I think.

Would have thought it would be U23s for a bit first.

Don't get me wrong, if he can come in and take it by storm then it would be good but can't expect too much.

Maybe looking ahead, we do need another winger IMO, we can't rely on JJ.

These are the type of players that we can build the future squad on. Decent non-league gems.

Ipswich are in poll position though, however he has every chance of playing first team football with us earlier.

It might be one of those where the player would prefer to stay local. Like the guy we missed out on to Barnet in the summer.

We can't have a Ben Stephens and a Ben Stevenson, sounds a bit like a British take on icelandic naming conventions

It's better they are called Ben than Steven though!

Good to see that the club has longer term plans.

Has got to be worth a look, but like Nick says he might be a longer term investment rather than an immediate solution. However you never know, some just step up.

Yeah, reassures me when I see things like this, that the club itself intends to exist into the future!

Sisu trying to pull the wool over our eyes for when Stevenson is offloaded. Will fool many no doubt.

Good we've got him in to look at if we don't act Peterborough most likely will

There is more cynicism in that post than logic and then served with a good dollop of understandable bitterness.

However Stevenson hasn't been sold and the other lad is only on trial.

Yeah I’ve seen him a few times-stands our in that team and will probably get player of the season there too. Recently turned down a move to Banbury Utd which may have been a side step.

Here’s two free-kicks he’s scored (recently, I presume):

IF he turns out to be decent, I hope we don't just sit Back, wait to see what happens with Ipswich and then think about offering him summat.

If he comes on trial and looks decent get him a bloody contract offered and get him through the door before others get a chance

Ponti wasn't even semi-pro when we signed him.

There have been a few local players that we have missed out on so it’s good we are taking a look

Can only be positive, JJ was signed from lower leagues and took a few seasons to shine. I think he would have more chance for a regular game here than Ipswich so hopefully with that and the location he opts for us! Salary clearly going to be the deciding factor but would be nice to see him think of long term plans.
Vardy obviously being the current shining example but there must be plenty of potential in non league for us to snap up.

He's a wide player rather than a striker like Ponticelli isn't he?

WTF?

People who say we shouldn't sign players from non-league clearly have no fucking clue and should be ignored. Why don't we sign Messi instead?
