Do you really think Kelly will get another gig in the championship? Hes loving every minute of this journey with us even as third choice.

I don’t think he would get another championship job and I’m sure he loves it with us but if I only had a few years of football left I’d be tempted being first team at the top of L1 over a championship bench.

Maybe Kelly loves the team spirit, whilst knowing he will always be on the bench and playing less.Sheaf think he is now forcing robins to pick him as seems to be pushing on ,learning every game and thought he scored v sheff utd.

You would like to think so professional pride etc but, bearing in mind as you say he's only a few years left, probably factor in who's going to pay the most money - or any promises of coaching, a life after being on the pitch so to speak. He's been a great captain and hopefully a good influence over the players who have come in.

I Rate Sheaf highly, but i have to disagree completely.

Briliant thing is we can come back to this.

Sheaf hasnt been a regular in our team since he joined same time as Hamer. Sheaf has been dropped countless times.

Who do you think is first choice in Robins eyes????

Hamer or Sheaf?

We had this discussion at work the other day. We all agreed to a point that robins first choice in the midfield at the start of the season is hamer and Kelly and I think he still sees those two as his first choice pairing. I get the impression that robins still doesn’t trust sheaf still?

I don't know if anybody else checked but Hamer and Allen also feature in the top for individual areas.

Hamer for progressive passes and Allen for retention.

Shows we have some real strength there and a very complete midfield

I really rate Sheaf and it's nice when these visuals start coming out.

I read a rumour here that apparently Hamer prefers to play with Kelly which I can't buy at all. If you've played football in any team you really feel the benefit of a player who can receive a ball anywhere and comfortably distribute.

Lots been said on his occasional mistake but he does 100x more good things, no doubt.

I thought Sheaf was very good yesterday, he tends to get alot of stick because the mistakes he makes often seem to lead to a goal, possibly as he's in the DMC position. I reckon he'll keep improving if given a good run in the side, definitely has potential to play at a higher level.

He hasn't been injured for a while and Sheaf is in ahead of him.

Classic case of 'I think this so Robins must think this too'

He's been back fit since the 24th Sept and has started 3 of 10 games. He's not started any of the last 5.

Sheff Utd - Sheaf start Kelly bench
Bristol City - Sheaf start Kelly bench
Swansea - both bench
Hull - Sheaf start Kelly bench
Derby - Sheaf start Kelly bench
Preston - Kelly start Sheaf bench
Blackburn - both start
Fulham - both start
Luton - both bench
Posh - both bench

That's 10 games Kelly has been back for, fit since 24th September.

In that time Sheaf has started 10 of 7, Kelly 3 and only once has Kelly started ahead of Sheaf.

Kelly’s been injured for a vast majority of this season and after a long term injury would not be walking straight into a winning side. You can dress the stats up as much as you want. Kelly is an important part of this team and will prove his worth over this season.

Thank you x

Kelly was fit enough to start three in a row against Fulham, Blackburn and Preston so he must have been match fit to that point. Since then he's not started once and Sheaf has started 4/5.

You can ignore stats as much as you want but don't try and imagine the manager agrees with you.

You really have some challenges my love if your trying to create an argument over a footballer playing more games than the other. Calm down quickly it’s really not worth getting wound up.

Sit back my love and get a nice cup of tea and watch match of the day 2.

Night night c

I said this in a thread I started about Sheaf, that he reminds me of Michael Carrick, but possibly better in the tackle.

Kelly is finished as a long term starter it seems, constantly in a knee brace away from football.

Many teams in this league would give their right arm a midfielder like Hamer or Sheaf. Let's just enjoy both seems like Hamer has started to get a bit of unwarranted criticism on here recently. They're both class.

Kelly will get his chance when inevitably Sheaf or Hamer get injured or suspended (Hamer 2 yellows away from a 2 game ban) and Allen will get his chance in away games where we play the box. It's a squad game and still early days in the season

I don't even think we've seen the best of Sheaf yet. When he's got 8-9 consecutive starts in, and he's fully up to speed, he'll really start to control games.

The mistakes will happen when he's in and out the team. He's playing the game in the area of the pitch where you have no time, it's all about the first touch pass, having eyes in the back of his head to know where your next pass is.

Sheaf probably has more touches of the ball than anybody so the odd wayward pass is inevitable in my opinion he’s the most improved player from last season in our squad and will get better.

He was excellent on Saturday and we really missed him when he came off.

Unless Sheaf took a knock or was being rested it really should have been Allen that came off.

Don't understand why Kelly has suddenly become the whipping boy. He missed pre-season and that is often a precursor to a catch-up season and some poorer performances. See Dabo and Rose how they performed last year after being out for all the early games. Kelly used to be the first name on the team sheet. It shows how far we have come that he has to fight for a place. To say he wont play a part this season is unfair and the pass to Godden against Bristol was excellent. Some supporters need to give all our players a break; they are a unit, a team and it is the togetherness which has taken us this far. I can't think of one of our players that hasn't come in for major criticism in the last two seasons. Yet here we are punching above our weight in fifth with one point off third. Can't wait for the comments if we falter at some point in the season.

I think this was partly due to the frenzy we had worked ourselves into before he signed. How many pages was his rumour page? Any thing short of Pirlo crossed with Kante was going to be a let down. I've been a fan from the start, but have to say he really went off the boil last season, but I suspect this was due to his injury. This season he's been very solid, but still makes the occasional high profile mistake. But much like Hamer and O'Hare, if that wasn't the case, he'd be playing somewhere else!

I thought that in the close season people thought we were in with a chance of signing James or Walsh, and that we could use the money we were committed to spend on Sheaf, towards one of those two, and/or a striker.
As it happened Sheaf has turned out to be a better option for us than either James or Walsh (IMO), and we got a real result with Gyo.
It's just that some people had already made their minds up about Sheaf.
