The question is who gets brought in. We’d need two RBs and two CMs plus better at centre back.

Loans can fill some but not all of the gaps.

This. People forget that Cal was literally set to sign for Burnley before his first injury.

I mean TBF that’s because we were fucking skint and needed to pay for the pitch.

Counter Leeds offer from flat £8 mill fee to a flat £10 mill fee plus Binks, Dasilva, Kitching, Asante, Collins and you've got yourself a deal.

He’s not currently performing like an £8 million player, if his poor form continues then I don’t see how he is a loss at that kind of money. If we can sign a couple of impact loans or a seasoned CB and a creative midfielder it would soften the blow.

His fitness hasn’t exactly been exemplary either, I’d not be too disappointed to see him leave.

In my opinion he isn't improving and looks like he is ready for a new challenge so this move could suit all parties. I think we have seen the best we are going to see from him and would be ok if 8mil came our way.

Sheaf, Milan and Wright will be gone in Jan or summer anyway. What's key in all this will be the replacements that FL wants to come in. He needs his own players at some point so it might as well be now.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, we probably should have cashed in on Sheaf in the summer

I can understand why we didn't though, after losing COH on a free flogging Sheaf would have gone down like a lead balloon at the time, that is something that is completely undeniable whatever anybody says now

Contexts change. We didn’t expect to be 15th in Jan so why would you sell your talisman and captain?

We’re in a situation now where his value peaked in the summer and will continue to dip until his contract expires.

If the price Is right, you’d sell anyone and getting a deal worth up to £15m for Sheaf is great piece of business. It covers losses and allows us to get 1-2 players in a position of need.

Exactly. Our fanbase is full of hindsighters. Those complaining about the recent recruitment would’ve been calling for Kings head if he sold Wright, Simms and MvE at massive profits in the summer, same with sheaf.

This season has just been a mixture of lack of consistency, upheaval and some bad luck thrown in. That’s football. Hopefully we can ride the dip and with some astute dealings improve as season goes on

Sheaf’s just not looked right this season, whether that’s injuries or wanting to move, who knows, but if it’s the latter and a good offer comes in, it would be best for all parties to move on. Shame as he’s a very good player on his day

If the opening gambit is £8m, if you can get £10-12m in cash and a few million in add-ons, we’ve done well.

If we were in the mix for the playoffs, you’d hold out for £15-20m but we’re not and he’ll have 12 months left on his contract by then.

We can have Hamer and Sheaf leave without putting serious investment in midfield. That could be hypothetically 20+ million from 2 players and all we’ve done is sign Torp for £2m.

We’ve got a great ‘deck’ of forward players, we just need midfielders to supply them and a defence that can keep a clean sheet.

I think we are all going a bit overboard on the Sheaf estimations again...

Should we win our next 3 games (I know), we would be right back up there. In that case we could hold out for 15-20 million? Absolutely fucking crackers!

If it happens I will buy every long-standing member of this forum a pint, or donate the equivalent to charity.

Makes business sense to buy low sell high.

Still think that there’s value in Sheaf way more than ten million.

He can comfortably cope in the premier league surrounded by better quality players.

But for some reason since being made captain he’s been strutting around the pitch like a bleeding peacock-something has put his nose out of joint and it wouldn’t surprise me that he hates playing in the DM position that he’s been playing this season.

Himself before team and you can tell he’s clearly not happy.

Sadly not my friend.

The prospect of losing your hero Sheafo, and seeing another set of confirmation that people are indeed coming out with these batshit estimations must be killing you though!

You could tell he was more impacted than most by the Robins sacking, maybe that was the straw. Said he’d stick around for a season, saw the club falling apart and has had enough.

If we’re in the playoff mix, you’d take the risk of not selling him barring a ‘crackers’ bid.

Pretty sure in Jan 2023, people would’ve sold Vik and or Hamer for £8-12m and we ended up getting what we wanted.

As it happens, we’re not in the mix of playoffs so the temptation to cash out at a lower price is not only rational, it’s probably the right thing to do.

Besides, if you thought you had a buyer willing to pay a crackers price, let them crack on. I’m sure Ajax fans were more than happy to sell Anthony to Man U for £90m!

Not really. He'll be another player who is apparently not good enough for us who strangely goes on to play at a higher level.

I would certainly sell him and reinvest whatever money we can for him as soon as possible, I just think as a fan base we massively overestimate what he's worth. Hamer and Gyökeres are much better players so for me the comparison doesn't seem fair anyway.

The Leeds thing seems weird as they have a set of good midfielders and it isn't a position they require anybody. It begs the question, who's putting out these rumours?

It's quite possible after not getting the interest and move he wanted, there's some kind of attempt to drum up intrigue.

In terms of the rights and wrongs of selling Sheaf and/ or MVE now, I would only consider doing so if we received a ridiculously high bid. If estimates of £6m for MVE and £8m for Sheaf are correct I would rather hang on to the Summer. That would also allow us a bigger and better pool of players to choose from as replacements, and not leave us at the mercy of paying over the odds fees that are synonomous with the January window, and blowing any profit made from their sales.

Just not quite the higher level you previously made out I suppose. It appears the goalposts are moving, as no one has really said he isn't good enough for us either. You also stated no one was coming out with these inflated estimations, but there's evidence against right here on this thread as well.

If he does go, I'll be sorry for your loss.

Get him out yes, but we would still need replacements lined up in midfield. Likewise MVE.

The squad needs a big overhaul but we just can’t try to do that in January.

Tell you what, we can have a charity bet that for the season 2025-2026, he'll be playing for a team that'll finish higher than us in the football pyramid.

In good faith, I would be happy to do one if it you wanted to rephrase it as a regular premier league starter or something like that.

I think he probably will play for a better team than us, but that is also a reflection of our own troubled waters!

Why are some so keen to get rid of Sheaf. Our best midfielder by a long way and in an area where the pool is shallow. If we get a ridiculous bid fair enough. If not try and shift Allen or Torp and free up wages. We would seriously regret selling Sheaf.

This isn’t news to anyone that you feel this way but you’re in the minority of the fanbase, forum and wider football community as a whole. Sheaf has a lot of admirers.

If the quoted figure of £8m upfront and up to £15m in add-ons, it would show he wasn’t overvalued. He has 6 months less on his contract.

Oh I know I'm in the minority, don't worry about that mate!

I still stand by what I said, and I'll stand firm in what I believe no matter how much I get mocked. If he was really that good he would have gone in the summer. He didn't, and now the people that went quiet at the time seem to be moving the goalposts. Granted, even though I disagree with your take, you are one who is sticking to your guns also - so fair enough for that.

You’re entitled to your opinion and everyone has at least one opinion that’s in the minority.

You have to open to selling anyone and with Sheaf, it’s perhaps the best time to sell just as Jan 2023 would’ve been perfect to cash in on COH.
