David Beckham has revealed that he wants to represent the British football team at the 2012 Olympics.

Speaking to American reporters at an LA Galaxy media event, the former England captain said:

"I think it'd be something that I'd like to be involved in, and I'd like to be involved in as a player.

"But we'll have to wait and see. That's a year away yet. So we'll see. I'll enjoy the rest of this season, you know we're only five games in."

Beckham, who will turn 36 next month, also revealed he's considering returning to the MLS when his LA Galaxy expires at the end of next season.

"Yeah, there's a chance. I haven't made any decision about what I'm going to do after this year. I think it's important that I just concentrate on my play this year.

"I feel fit, I feel good in games, I feel as if I'm performing well. I need to continue that and then in a few months I'll think about what I want to do at the end of the day."

If he's good enough why not? As long as he is in on merit and not in as an ambassador. I've Never understood the hatred towards Beckham on any level. One of the few who would crawl over broken glass to represent his country. Good luck to him.

I'm sure the IOC won't miss the chance for the Beckham float to go past.

Can't really see this as a bad thing. He's not going to be in the England squad again. Most likely isn't going to come back to the premier league because I can't see United taking him on again so why not.. It'll give his fans a chance to see him play again and bring in plenty of interest for the Olympics.
