Point being, it isn't all over yet. May be a massive ask and no doubt a big change in form/commitment is required. But it is achievable. Feb/march will be a good time to see what is possible. I personally think the players we have should be doing better let's hope RS can make us perform. Also add some decent and lose the crap

Err... Isn't the difference that Barnsley had good players and we haven't?

There are great big massive holes in our squad and real problem areas.

We have two average keepers. We have a leaky defence. We are very thin in midfield and we are shot shy up front.

Add to that, that we have next to no physicality and little experience and it just highlights how big our problems are.

Slade (Spade) has to do some really astute wheeling and dealing in January to get us into a decent side.

When Paxman sees this he will be lambasting Slade for not targeting promotion.

But is it our goalies are average or could they be better if our defence was above average ?

My fear is, that if we do get success with Russell (Noddy) Slade, Sisu will want to stay! Can't bloody win eh! :arghh:

All the things that were wrong and not working at Barnsley, hence their position and GD...a false position brought about by unmotivated players at the time. Get our lot motivated and it'll be a different story...

They could be better with a better defence, they are still both average though.

Maybe. Or maybe they just aren't good enough.

You can't make players more physical if it's not in their make up. You can't turn poor players into good players.

Guess the question is, are we underperforming or are the players just not good enough?

Venus said it was very much the latter.

Well Otis...I think they're under performing. What does Venus know! Also energy, brought about by motivation, is what produces physicality. I'm hopeful....

Otis I really believe it's a bit of both some players aren't good enough or ready for first team football, but the rest I think with proper man management the rest could well improve by 50% or more. I said last year we need somebody who can psychologically motivate the players but as usual I got ridiculed by a fair few on hear

Okay..... Here's a question then .....

Who DO we think is good enough out of this squad?

McCann (but is leaving).

Sordell

Ermm.... starting to struggle a bit after that.

We have a lot of distinctly average players (Turnbull, Rose, Reid, DKE, Lameiras, RCC, Burge) and then the likes of the very inconsistent Bigi.

Willis is good enough for League One, but I think then it is a struggle to come up with names.

These things happen once in a blue moon, whilst it is not impossible, it is highly improbable. We need to concentrate in getting safe first.

If we take 74 as the magic 6th place marker, thats 55 points needed from 24 game (2.3 points per game - 105 over a 46 game season). We can probably afford to lose 3 more games this season, I'd also had Barnsley were 3 points ahead of us at this stage last season, so if we put an identical run together we will be 2 shy of their target.

They also won the 2 festive games so on 2nd Jan they had 27 points.

Bristol rovers is a tough game away, then we have Bolton at home, even if we get reinforcements in before Bolton its unlikely we will come out with back to back victories despite thr new manager bounce.

A lot will be down to recruitment, but there's a big difference between turning us around and getting us safe then putting together league winning form for the remainder of the season.

Let's stop the rot first, pull ourselves out of the relegation zone into safety and see where we are at the end of Feb. This thread is far too premature.

We can all dream but I will honestly think slade has done a good job if he turns us around and we finish outside the bottom 4. I think a midtable finish is the best we can do

Good enough for what? If we're talking about good enough to just keep us up, then I think with the right management they can be good enough.

Good enough for League One. Venus said we were not good enough for League One, so that's my question.

Most of those players are good enough for L1 IMO if they were playing in a good well balanced team. I still think we are only short of 3 or 4 good players in the right positions to produce a team which could have made the playoffs if put together at the start of the season

Oh dear, then. He's still at the club and still in charge of transfers and bringing players to the club isn't he?

God save our souls.

Do you want to compare their squad to ours?

That should take the encouragement right from you.

Daft to even attempt to compare ours to theirs.

So you're saying they had a much stronger squad... and yet were in the same position we are. What makes a stronger squad? A more successful one? So what would that make our squad if were successful? Would they suddenly become a much stronger squad? Listen I'm not setting up an argument here, but it seems unlikely to me that this time last year people were calling Barnsley a strong squad....so I'm interested to see what happens next under Slade....

If a half dressed deaf man in grey slippers walks slowly across a ravine that is 20 ft wide and 14 ft deep, how many times can he say red lorry yellow lorry with his eyes closed and cotton wool balls in his ears before Russel Slade is able to pick a decent team?

The thing is Otis, didn't we have one of the best defensive records in the division after 10 or so games? I seem to recall pointing something like that out.

If that's the case, maybe a better manager might get better results with what we have. I know it's not 100% comparable but look at the likes of Hazard and Moses prospering under Conte at Chelsea.

Fingers crossed that Slade turns Bigi into a world beater just to see G go into meltdown!
