Terrible. Just terrible. No justification for this anywhere, whatever the circumstances.

Latest - 12 dead. Had only a couple of days ago been discussing taking the family for a break there (not sure my wife will be so keen now).
Raises emotions of sadness and frustration, as there is no tangible 'enemy' to 'deal' with. Just a sad ideology that seems to appeal to a few disillusioned people with little happening within their own lives. Need to deal with preachers of hate though that get inside these individuals heads.

my son was there on a school trip not long ago, it's quite a sobering thought.

We need to remember that he chances of getting caught up in this are still very small, not that that's any consolation to those that are affected.

Can’t stop free speech I’m afraid, even if you want to, ask the Chinese. It’s a big ugly complex problem and it’ll take multiple generations to fix. In a way it’s sinilar forces to Trump and Brexit, fast pace of change, people uncomfortable with it, looking for an entity to blame. World is so connected these days that it only takes a small group to have a global impact and with a population of seven billion, pure statistics says you’ll get enough crazies. Like a lot of the big problems, it’ll be reduced through equality, economic development and education, but none of those things are a magic bullet sadly.

As I always say after these things (it’s sad I have a terrorist incident catchphrase) it’s big and loud and scary, but it’s not a serious threat to our way of life and it’s not a serious threat to the person when you compare it to mundane threats like heart disease or cancer.

And yet all these responses to this abhorrent act...how many of the same people yell about letting in the poor children affected by perhaps the Syrian crisis? Only to hear in the news today that some of those admitted may well have been IS kids planted for specifically ensuring similar actions at some future point unpredictable point in time?
It is a real conundrum for the politicians...give them a home thinking only a small % are real plants...as opposed to how many innocent lives the potential plants are going to take now & at some future point.

Who'd want to make such generalising calls???

I know this sounds a litte contentious and of course this is obviously another horrible and tragic attack on innocent people, but the more countries they attack the more we can unify against them can't we? Very simplistic I know, but when there was something like the IRA here or ETA in Spain, for other countries not involved they could look at the situation with a sympathetic eye, but it is something happening on a far and different shore. It is not affecting them directly and it is not their problem.

If these same group of terrorists here and now are attacking France and the UK and Germany and Spain the rest of Europe and then also the US and Australia etc., then they are pretty much turning the whole world against them.

Instead of looking and saying 'it's your problem,' it becomes all our problem.

Does this help us all unite in a universal fight against tereorism?

towards the end of last year if I remember correctly. June obviously even closer to home.
Must be a popular destination for school trips which makes this all the more sickening.

the difference between what is happening now and the groups you mentioned is they had a clear agenda. That made negotiation possible.
What is the agenda of these islamists, they just seem to hate our way of life.

Yeah, my daughter was there near the end of June, so not long ago at all.

I know it's only a simple little thing, but I am now always on at her not to go walking about with her earphones on,on high blast. Think we all need to be pretty vigilant to what's going on around us unfortunately.

Yes, agree. Wasn't trying to offer any comparison past a change from your problem to our problem scenario.

The more countries these terrorists attack the more countries will turn against them.

Was shocking to watch on TV last night the legacy these IS terrorists have left behind in the towns they occupied. Teaching children jihad in schools. Simple maths explained with school literature that now replaced simple objects with sticks of dynamite for counting purposes. 'How many sticks of dynamite is this? How many is that? '

In PE, how to assemble and disassemble a rifle.

Shapes and sizes. Teaching children about tallest and smallest but using pictures of rockets (from rocket launchers) and grenades and guns.

Teaching children about blowing themselves up and killing people.

That's the next generation of terrorists right there.

at the club where my son used to go martial arts they did anti bullying and awareness, walking around with head phones on full blast is one of the first things they told them not to do.

The problem is I think that they want people to unite against the whole of Islam and not just these Islamist crack pots. It's some sort of prophecy that the whole world will turn against Muslims and then they will win the final holy war. By attacking reasonable muslims and judging them all together then you're doing exactly what they want. By all means we should completely anhialate radical Islamists but at the same time we need to build bridges with moderate muslims to show that their prophecy is bollocks.

Yep and for the most part (us sensible ones anyway) we do that.

As I've said on here before, my whole philosophy and what I try to drum into my daughter is to treat everyone as an individual and each individual on their own individual merits.

Do that and you can't go far wrong.

We can't just go round lumping people together cos it suits us or our argument.

Easiest way.

Round up people who want to kill others because they aren't muslim, the people who want to kill others because they are muslim, those who want to kill because they aren't white/black/pink/green and put them into an arena with lions, tigers etc without any weapons and just watch and have a giggle.

Islam is a religion fundamentally opposed to others. Interfaith marriage is banned apart from where a muslim man marries a Christian or Jew woman (and doubtless forces her into Islam). The lack of genuine integration of Pakistani and Bengali communites into British life after 70 years says it all.

And that response smacks of one fundamentally opposed to Islam based upon the Islamic rants of a few (what I shall call) empty heads, & seized upon by western media to sensationalise & sell news.

The overwhelming majority of Muslims in my personal experience are simply more devoted to their faith. I know of some that have in fact shunned Islam to an extent to marry those of other faiths, some have been mildly shunned by their fellow faith followers & embarrassed families as a result. It is a different culture & value system.

The vast majority have no desire to kill or hurt others or take over the world. They just want to get on with their own lives the same as you & I.

Your second paragraph proves my point exactly!

No. The Koran does not allow muslim women to marry outside of islam. Muslim men can but only to Christians or Jews, in keeping with the general misogyny of the religion, the same misogyny that in 2017 makes women cover their faces up in case another man looks at them.
