I see you are quick to say something against a player that is leaving or to defend the SISU actions. Both Baker and Murphy within a minute.

So are you saying that although Murphy offered to take a pay cut to stay months ago he was only after a contract elsewhere?

All I done on the other thread was commented on a post where you incorrectly claimed Baker was our captain which he isn't.

The pay cut was an answer to a direct question in an interview, it's not as if he just came out and said offer me a pay cut and I will sign right now. He just said he would if he needed to. Murphy was never interested in taking a pay cut once he got word other clubs were in for him.

but did the club actually offer murphy a new contract? lots of sources with apparent quotes from him reckon an offer never materalised. When we were in the premier we bought 1st div players always looking for gold nuggets we ended up with a 1st team in div 1, were doing the same again with lower league players....were short of players all over the team, alot of them coming back from injury ....wheres the investment? if this season of rinse / repeat bullshit from sisu doesnt wake up those still supporting them (sorry supporting the lads) then what will.

Baker has never been a favourite of mine...but he can do it (sometimes), maybe we will replace with a better player however i doubt it...unless we strike lucky.....and thats the crux, we rely on luck and some of the latest transfers loans have been way of the mark of what we need.

I think he would. But I guess he has been pretty out of favour under SP so new terms are unlikely.

Murphy out of favour?

Why did he keep picking him then and why has he been replaced with a loan signing? All the choice of SP?

Do you mean like Murphy who came out publically that he would be happy to take a pay cut but no offer was forthcoming.

He was offered a contract according to the CET and according to Rupert Bear was £4,000 a week.

I'm sorry, but that's not quite right. Murphy came out and said quite clearly that he wanted to get something sorted before the end of the season, and understood he might need to take a pay cut. In response, the club didn't even make him an offer before the end of the season. He hardly had his head turned by better offers prior to then, and it seems reasonable to assume he might have stayed had the club offered him something *before* last season had finished.

Baker, whether you rate him or not, played 43 times and scored 10 goals last season, and 55 times and 15 goals the season before. I think we'd be quite excited if we were signing a midfielder with those stats, or a goalkeeper with Murphy's pedigree at this level.

As I see it, letting Baker and Murphy go is far more about cutting costs than improving the team. I can sort of live with that, except for the nagging doubt that if we were playing in front of bigger crowds at the Ricoh we might not have had to have cut wages quite so drastically.

This is what I find odd, players have left who have a decent track record and a lot of the players coming in have poor stats yet the majority don't seem concerned. Lots of comments about how good it is to cut the wage bill and not to worry as the players coming in might come good. Seems a risky strategy to me. Of course they could all come good, and I hope they do but if one or two don't what then?

With Baker some seem to have unrealistic expectations of someone playing at this level. for some reason he seemed to get singled out for a lot of criticism, often in my opinion unwarranted. With him and Moussa gone I'm not confident we're going to be able to replace the number of goals scored from midfield, that's before you even consider replacing the number of goals scored by Clarke and Wilson.

Hopefully it will come good and we're not a few months into the season talking about a lack of goals, the team needing time to gel etc.

No it's not. Murphy was offered a contract. When a championship club came in for at his age it's nonsense to suggest he would stay.

Bakers 7 league goals in 37 appearances last season would hardly be considered irreplaceable.

We offered Messi 10m a year to join us. It has been said so must be true.

If our club would have said that they offered Murphy a contract they would have said so. SP did say he wanted to keep him but that was as far as any comment went.

Further proof that there are some idiots who are happy to accept a mediocre League 1 squad, while we play at a piss poor stadium.

Waggot and Pressley both said after he left that we tried to keep him

The club did offer Murphy a contract. They wouldn't lie.

Whether you want to believe that the offer was so low he was practically forced to take the other offer on the table, or that he "couldn't resist" an offer to be a bench warmer in the championship is up to you.

Every player would choose bench warming if it's a bigger salary.
To suggest it was a very low offer is pure guesswork with zero evidence. You are rapidly becoming astutes apprentice.

It is all well and good saying "wake up" but I think we are well within our rights to question our League 1 mediocrity don't you?

No. Stop acting like we are above clubs. The talk about how depressing it is to lose players to Bournemouth and Huddersfield is disgraceful and disrespectful to those clubs.

Given that most on here seem to revel in the epitome of league one mediocrity - Carl Baker - I find your remark ironic.

We should be one of the best supported clubs in L1, obviously not at the moment due to our owners actions, and therefore be in a position financially to be challenging for promotion. It's not like people are going around saying we should spend crazy money to storm back into the PL. We should be able to get back into the Championship without breaking the bank but instead we're now starting our third L1 season with doubts over our ability to do more than survive another season. What is wrong with wanted a realistic level of success?

I don't think its about being "above" clubs. More about being above our current position. Clubs will certainly rise and fall but that doesn't mean we should accept our fall as one of those things.

He was certainly no messiah but to lose him to a fellow league 1 side when he was scoring goals for us last season is ridiculous.

Ageed. I have no problem with the signings we have made, however I am concerned at the size of the squad, and the fact that any player that did make an impact last season is now gone. I think it would be strange to NOT be a little concerned. We want promotion back to the championship, and we have a squad which have played a handful of games together. Plus the fact the captain hasn't played 1.

nice. Thanks for that one. Grendel said it was all about money? I would suggest there were several reasons. Quite a few go back to the fact we are now a mediocre League 1 team in a tin-pot stadium.

Two factors: money and higher league.

Stop looking so far into it for no reason but to be depressing

1. You're two factors are correct. However I would suggest there are more.
2. Why would I look so far in to something just to be depressing? I'm not 50. Dare I say that other factors make the situation appear depressing, but then you might call me a "dipshit" again. HOW DEPRESSING!

How do you know they all wanted to leave? Did the ones saying they wanted to say want to leave? Of course even if they did want to leave you would need to know why, maybe if they thought we would be back at the Ricoh and mounting a genuine promotion challenge they wouldn't be so keen to go.

Baker is, according to many on here, earning way to much for a L1 player and its looking like he's moving to another L1 club so are you suggesting they are offering him more than the salary we are paying him?

I would imagine baker will be offered a longer contract.
