IMHO this is all about salary scales, Carl's contract must break the levels currently established, which may have an effect on squad morale.

Wenger & Arsenal for instance are very careful about such things & I imagine Waggot intends that CCFC should be also.

Good luck to Carl.

Good luck to Carl.

I liked the way he always tried sometimes to hard, thought he was a desent player better then some in the squad at the moment (from what little I've seen) could have done with him last Saturday we were abysmal..........

Anyway looking forward to tonight.

I am a little gutted to see him go but it was clear that he wasnt going to play for the club this season and made sense for both parties to move on. I still think he would get in to alot of League One sides.

Players come and players go but in an era where we seem to struggle to hold on to anyone for more than a season or two he stands at as a relatively long serving player.

I do find it a bit odd. Only 6 months ago SP was warning other clubs off and talking about how vital Baker was, now we're being told SP doesn't even want him in the squad. Can we really say Baker is worse than every other player we have kept? So from that it would seem more a financial deal.

If I thought Baker was going so we could get 2 or 3 other players in then fine but is that the case, how much have we saved if we've had to pay up his contract? Doesn't help that I always have a suspicion when we're told money will go back into the team. I'm not really seeing much evidence of the Clarke, Wilson and Arsenal money being given to SP so remain to be convinced that the loss of Baker will be any benefit to us.

Good luck to Baker, seemed a genuine and likeable guy. Never really did it for me apart from the occasional flash of brilliance, unfortunately counterbalanced with large doses of mediocracy. I can understand why some fans took to him and also understand why Grendel is so critical.

He was one of the good guys in football IMO. I didn't always rate him; always said he league one standard and I stand by that. He struggled to make an impact in the championship but we saw the best if him after our relegation.

Not sure why so many are mourning his loss though (as controversial as that may sound!). Players do come and go. These things happen.

I don't agree with how he and Barton have been (mis)managed this pre season / season, and do feel for him. Got the impression he adopted CCFC as his club; his kids go the games and seem to love it. He's put up pictures of them in Cov shirts so have been brought up with the club.

Do wish him well, but the idea that's being banded around about a 8th minute tribute on Friday is a but too far IMO (but if it goes ahead, I won't moan)

I wish Baker all the best, as he has always tried to serve the club to the best of his abilities.

He has come through personal tragedy, and has always come across as a good honest and decent bloke, who seems to hold the Club and us the fans in honest affection.

He is neither the best or worst player to wear the shirt but has made the best of what he has got, which is a damn site more than I have. He could have sat on the bench, out of favour just picking up his wage packet, which many players these days seem happy to do, and so I admire the fact that he wants to get the best out of his career and hope he finds a club soon.

Yep, Kind of like applause and signing 'one Carl baker' apparently.

Sure, he'd like it, but shouldn't we be supporting the players that are going to be on the pitch in the 8th minute, not a free agent? Just my thoughts though

I'm creating the online petition as we speak. I just need a catchy acronym ...

Top bloke, unfairly targeted as a scapegoat at times (I even remember somebody going mental at him at the Ricoh ... when he wasn't even playing) and obviously had an affinity for the club.

I know we expect all Cov players to put 110% in (to use a horrible mathematically incorrect football cliche) and have a certain respect and fondness for the club and fans but the fact that Baker is one of very few to show that in recent years is a telling sign. Don't use that to belittle Bakers time for us, use it to praise him and belittle other shit gibbons that have turned up and been shite and not given one about it.

Thoroughly deserved the accolades first season down, scored some pivotal and very good goals over the last couple of seasons despite never quite hitting the same heights in the league above, not his fault.

Good luck to a chap who at least cared and provided the odd glimpses of quality. If only half the players had his attitude, I'm sure we'd be more successful on the pitch.

£8 grand a week, not his fault I know but paying players this sort of money over the years is what has put our club in such a precarious position. Good luck Mr Baker but there can be no complaints under present circumstances from fans who want the club to survive. That sort of income over 4 years or so should set a man up for life used wisely.

A statue. That or the sky blue crew perform wearing Baker masks. Either way is a fitting tribute.

I'm not sure they do.

In fact I'd go as far as to say there's more exaggerated hyperbole about fans exaggerated hyperbolic opinions on Baker, than there are exaggerated hyperbolic opinions on Baker.

The statue of Joy will come first. Remember, we were told we would get one as Joy has done so much that is good for our club.

Hyperbole -- read this!

Presley and Presley alone was responsible for Carl going. I will never forgive him for this. What comes round goes round. Carl you are a better real man than that scum will ever be. Good luck in all you do, you were a real ambassador for this lousy club who didn't deserve you on and off the pitch. You will be sorely missed. Keep in touch with the real fans of the SB's. Take care of your lovely little family and your lovely mum x disgusted and sick from all your fans.
